The New York Giants may be forced to make a big trade this week.

The New York Giants' backfield situation is a complete mess right now.

Yes, Cam Skattebo broke out with a career-high 124 yards in the Giants' win over the Houston Texans in the team's last game, but he tweaked his hamstring in the process.

Now, Skattebo's status for Sunday's matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles may be up in the air as a result.

The timing is awful, as New York released Najee Harris after Week 6, and it just placed Tyrone Tracy on injured reserve.

That leaves Devin Singletary as the Giants' only healthy veteran halfback heading into this weekend, and while Singletary did score the game-winning touchdown in overtime versus the Texans, New York certainly doesn't want to rely on him as its featured back.

All of this could force the Giants' hand this week, as they are sitting atop the NFC East at 4-2-1 and surely want to keep their momentum going.

New York has been pursuing a Jonathan Taylor trade, but the Indianapolis Colts seem to be holding firm at their Christian McCaffrey-style asking price, which would be far too much for the Giants to surrender.

Baltimore Ravens star Derrick Henry is another potential option, but with Henry appearing to be on a significant downturn and turning 33 years old in January, it would be a risky proposition for Big Blue, to say the least.

The Giants could also call up the Tennessee Titans to inquire about one of Tony Pollard or Tyjae Spears, both of whom are slated to hit free agency at season's end. The Titans are all but guaranteed to trade at least one of the two.

New York would prefer not to surrender draft capital for a player who could simply walk come March, but with Skattebo in limbo, the Giants may not have much of a choice.

Another possibility is Las Vegas Raiders youngster Ashton Jeanty, who lost his starting job to rookie Mike Washington Jr. last week and has struggled mightily ever since being selected sixth overall by the Raiders in 2025.

Jeanty has three years of team control left after this season, which would make him a potential cornerstone piece for New York moving forward. The Raiders have shown no indication they want to move Jeanty, however, thus the price tag would probably be a bit too lofty for the Giants' taste.

One more possibility is New York Jets halfback Breece Hall, but like Pollard and Spears, he is hitting the open market after the campaign, and he has missed significant time due to injury.

Hopefully, Skattebo is able to get healthy quickly so the Giants won't be forced into making a trade, but there is no question that New York finds itself in a very precarious situation at the moment.
