Brian Burns of the New York Giants was ranked a top-10 NFL pass rusher. Find out where he landed.
The folks over at FOX Sports believe Brian Burns of the New York Giants is a top-10 NFL pass rusher.
FOX Sports ranked Burns No. 7. Burns is one spot ahead of Nik Bonitto of the Denver Broncos and one spot behind Danielle Hunter of the Houston Texans.
"In the midst of a miserable season for the Giants, the seven-year veteran re-established himself as a star with a career-high 16.5 sacks and a pass rush win-rate of 16% that ranked him just outside the top 10," FOX Sports wrote. "Considering it was a down year for Burns' defensive line mates — defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence had just a half sack and edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux played in only 10 games — his explosion was even more surprising.
"This year, Burns might have to share the wealth, with Thibodeaux plus young stars Abdul Carter and Arvell Reese (whom the Giants took in the last two first rounds) all figuring to be a part of New York's pass rush. But that’s the only thing standing in his way. He showed he’s still got the speed and explosiveness that made him so dangerous during his years in Carolina. He hasn’t slowed down at all at age 28 and should be a centerpiece of new defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson’s scheme."
Burns didn't miss a game last season. He finished with 16.5 sacks, 39 solo tackles, 22 tackles for loss and 31 QB hits. The former Carolina Panthers star made his third Pro Bowl.
The Giants went only 4-13 last season. Former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was hired this offseason as the new coach, Matt Nagy is the new OC and Dennard Wilson is the new DC.
Burns, 28, enters this season with 71.0 sacks, 232 solo tackles, 98 tackles for loss and 144 QB hits in the NFL with the Panthers and Giants. He's never been to the playoffs, though. We'll see if that changes this year.
In Year 1 of the Harbaugh era, the Giants play the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Commanders, New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions. That's a tough slate.
We just watched the New York Knicks win the NBA championship this year. Anything is possible in sports, so let's see if the Giants can shock the world this season and make the NFL playoffs.
