New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo addressed rumors of a potential beef with head coach John Harbaugh.
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo wears his emotions on his sleeve, and that act can wear thin on some people.
Some even wondered if it was already wearing thin on head coach John Harbaugh.
Late in the Giants' preseason win over the Jets last week, Skattebo was seen having a discussion with Harbaugh on the sideline, a conversation that some interpreted as a bit acrimonious.
That led to rumors of a potential beef between Skattebo and Harbaugh.
During an appearance on the Up & Adams Show this week, the second-year halfback immediately shut down that speculation, saying that there was absolutely nothing hostile about his exchange with Harbaugh.
"There's that video going around of me and Harbaugh, and not liking what I said or whatever," Skattebo told Kay Adams. "It was a more serious conversation. It wasn't anything negative or anything positive."
Skattebo added that he was asking Harbaugh it was "more messed up to kneel the ball going into the end zone from the one-yard line or actually scoring."
You really, really have to be looking for something to get anything negative from the clip. Tyrone Tracy is laughing. Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is laughing. Harbaugh didn't have a negative reaction to anything Skattebo was saying.
It was a video that essentially caught five seconds of Skattebo saying a few words to Harbaugh, and that was it.
Because Skattebo irritated Harbaugh by doing a backflip at Fanatics Fest earlier this summer, some automatically want to assume there is a problem between the two. But using that short clip as confirmation bias is just lazy.
The fact of the matter is that Skattebo is going to represent a critical part of the Giants' offense this season. He will be the featured back, and he displayed last year that he is versatile enough to carry a heavy load.
New York has Tracy and recently signed Najee Harris to bolster the backfield. Devin Singletary is still on board, as well, so everyone will be getting touches. But Skattebo will be the No. 1 back until proven otherwise.
The Giants will open up their season at home against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.
