The New York Giants should already be planning a run at this cornerback.
Remember during the offseason when just about everyone assumed that the New York Giants would sign Marlon Humphrey if the Baltimore Ravens cut him?
That obviously did not come to fruition, as the Ravens opted to hold on to Humphrey entering the final year of his contract.
However, Humphrey will be hitting the free-agent market in the spring, and you can bet John Harbaugh is already eyeing him.
For all of the talk about Joey Porter Jr., Humphrey may end up the more realistic cornerback target for the Giants next offseason.
Yes, the 30-year-old took a major step back last season, but he is just two years removed from an All-Pro campaign, and he has gotten off to a much better start in 2026.
Now, we clearly aren't talking about a long-term contract here given Humphrey's age. But it absolutely wouldn't hurt to add Humphrey on a short-term deal, especially considering New York should be prepared to take a bigger step forward in 2027.
The hope is that Colton Hood will develop into a No. 1 corner for the Giants down the line, and if Deonte Banks impresses this season, perhaps New York can re-sign him, as well. Add Humphrey into the mix, and suddenly, Big Blue would be cooking.
The Giants could also pluck a cornerback in the NFL Draft, which should be teeming with talent at the position next April.
There are absolutely going to be options for New York during the offseason, which is why the Giants should not be gung-ho over trying to swing a trade for Porter in the coming weeks.
Harbaugh is very familiar with Humphrey from all of the time they spent together in Baltimore, and you can bet Humphrey would love to follow his former coach to the Big Apple. It seems like a natural fit, but it isn't really being discussed anymore.
Of course, that's because Humphrey can no longer be of help to the Giants in 2026, but if they sign him in free agency, he can ultimately serve as a significant piece for the squad next fall.
We'll see how things shape up.
