New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston could surprise people this week against Washington.
The New York Giants were able to move to 3-1 on the new season last week, taking down the Arizona Cardinals in the process.
Despite the team losing starting quarterback Jaxson Dart weeks ago to a season-ending injury, New York has been able to stay the course. Veteran backup Jameis Winston has held down the fort well for the Giants, leading them to two straight wins.
After a lackluster offensive debut for Winston against the Tennessee Titans, he bounced back a week ago, throwing for 250 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions against the Cardinals. While the turnovers are concerning, this has been exactly who Winston has been since he entered the NFL.
The Giants have gotten the full Winston experience through their first two weeks of the season with him as the starter. Winston has a lot of talent, but his time in the league has been very inconsistent, leading to him being more of a high-end backup.
But coming into the game against the Commanders, Winston has been named a fantasy sleeper for the week. Analyst Raza Umerani of NFL.com believes that the Giants' signal-caller could be in line to have a strong game against Washington.
Winston has started to develop more chemistry with the Giants' wide receivers, which could bode well for his game this weekend. The Commanders' defense has been prone to allowing a lot of yardage, giving Winston a chance to exploit everything.
With Malik Nabers looking healthy for the Giants, the passing game has been much stronger this season. Winston has shown the ability to push the ball down the field, and this could be good for a fantasy performance this week against Washington.
The Giants signal-caller ranks eighth in the NFL with 9.3 yards per pass attempt, and this is a fantasy owner's dream for a quarterback. Winston has been a little off on his downfield passes, but the veteran quarterback is good for both risks and rewards.
With the Commanders' secondary being shaky at best, Winston could come away with a very strong performance this week. New York is counting on Winston to step up again in this game, helping to earn them a big division win.
The Giants want to make the playoffs this season, even with Dart out for the year, and Winston at least gives them a chance to do so. But games against the Commanders like this could determine a lot for New York the rest of the way.
