A former NFL agent has delivered a warning about New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo.
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo has quickly developed into one of the most polarizing players in football.
Yes, he's exciting to watch, and his personality can be infectious. But to some, his act can wear pretty thin.
Like at Fanatics Fest when Skattebo — who was recovering from ankle surgery — did a backflip and failed to stick the landing. Or when he slid into a couple of Giants during training camp, inciting a bit of a scuffle.
Thus far, New York has taken the good with the bad when it comes to its vociferous halfback, but former NFL agent Joel Corry does not think it should continue.
More specifically, Corry thinks Skattebo's representation should have a talk with him.
"When situations like these arise, an agent should provide counsel to their client," Corry wrote for CBS Sports. "It's an agent's job to tell a client what he needs to hear, not what he wants to hear. That isn't always done. Some agents are reluctant to be candid for fear of being fired and instead become enablers."
Corry also noted that Skattebo wasn't drafted nearly high enough to validate his behavior, particularly when it comes to the guarantees in his rookie deal.
"As a 2025 fourth-round pick, the only guaranteed money in Skattebo's four-year rookie contract is his $1.07 million signing bonus. That's standard for players drafted in the fourth round and beyond," Corry added. "The rest of Skattebo contract consists of minimum base salaries, which is also the norm beginning in the fourth round. Skattebo's 2026 salary is $1.005 million. The Giants surely wouldn't have paid Skattebo for any missed games for careless actions that could have been easily avoided."
And while Skattebo certainly displayed some flashes during his rookie campaign last season, it's not like he was thoroughly tremendous.
The Arizona State product played in just eight games before going down for the year with a freak ankle injury. During his time on the field, he rushed for 410 yards and five touchdowns on 3.9 yards per carry. He also caught 24 passes for 207 yards and a couple of scores.
In fairness, Skattebo was used in a lot of short-yardage situations, which partially explains his lack of efficiency. But he still needs to improve his yards-per-carry average if he wants to stick as New York's featured back.
The Giants also have Tyrone Tracy in the backfield, and it's important to note that they also added former Pro Bowler Najee Harris last month.
If Skattebo doesn't get his act together, it could have some pretty serious ramifications moving forward. Corry is right: Skattebo's reps should probably have a long sit-down meeting with the 24-year-old.
