This New York Giants defender has been hit with even more bad news as the NFL season draws closer.
The NFL season is inching closer and closer, meaning that the New York Giants will have some critical decisions to make in the coming days. And that goes beyond roster cuts.
John Harbaugh will also need to assemble his depth chart, and that is proving to be a more trying task at certain positions than others.
Cornerback, for example, has been one of the most competitive battles in training camp, which shouldn't come as a huge surprise given the state of the room.
But what is surprising is who could end up being dropped from the starting lineup.
Dan Duggan of The Athletic has reported he feels that Deonte Banks and Greg Newsome II would be the Giants' two starting cornerbacks if the season started tomorrow, which means that Paulson Adebo — he of the three-year, $54 million contract — would begin the 2026 campaign on the bench.
New York signed Adebo to a lucrative multi-year deal in free agency back in March 2025, hoping that the former New Orleans Saints standout would solidify the secondary.

He was anything but a calming presence, and now, Banks and Newsome, two former first-round disappointments, seem to be ahead of him in the pecking order.
It surely doesn't help Adebo's case that he skipped the early stages of the Giants' voluntary offseason program. The word "voluntary" is really misleading there, especially when a new head coach is running the show ... and when the player in question had a really rough season the year prior.
Adebo certainly didn't make a great impression on Harbaugh from the jump, and while he has performed better during the latter stages of training camp, he also clearly hasn't wowed the coaching staff this summer, either.
That Banks and Newsome may end up starting over Adebo is more of a knock against the latter than it is a testament to the former two. I don't think there is a single Giants fan in the world who would feel comfortable in Week 1 against CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and the Dallas Cowboys with Banks and Newsome starting on the outside.
But because of how much of a disappointment Adebo has been, that is the reality in which Big Blue finds itself with the season opener just around the corner.
