The New York Giants are already being linked to a towering wide receiver in the 2027 NFL Draft.
The New York Giants certainly spent a lot of time addressing their wide receiver situation during the offseason, signing all of Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin III and Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency while also drafting Malachi Fields.
Unfortunately, Austin suffered a torn ACL in training camp, and it's clear that Beckham is nothing more than a low-tier ancillary option, at best.
Malik Nabers remains the No. 1 receiver for the Giants, and Fields appears to be in line to eventually solidify his position as the No. 2.
But New York will almost certainly need to add some depth in the room next offseason, especially with all of Mooney, Austin and Beckham being on one-year contracts.
One name that is already surfacing as a possibility for the Giants is Indiana Hoosiers wide receiver Charlie Becker. In fact, Tankathon's recent mock draft has New York selecting Becker in the first round of the NFL Draft next April.
Let me preface this by saying that I absolutely do not think the Giants should be taking a receiver with their top pick in the spring. They have too many other more pressing needs, such as the cornerback position and perhaps defensive tackle.
I'm also not entirely sure that Becker himself would be the best fit.
Yes, New York could absolutely use another wide out, but the 6-foot-4, 208-pound Becker is far too similar to Fields in the role he would fill.
The Giants desperately needed an X-receiver this past offseason. Actually, they've needed one for quite some time. That's why they went out and got Fields.
I would think that if New York were trying to bring in another receiver this offseason, it would be more interested in someone who can effectively play the slot.
Austin was supposed to be that guy for the Giants in 2026. Perhaps they bring him back for another chance next season, but even still, I'm not too sure he is a very enticing option coming off of such a severe injury. And it's not like Austin has ever been an incredibly productive player, anyway.
Becker is intriguing because of his size and game-breaking ability. He averaged 20 yards per catch at Indiana last year, and through three games in 2026, he is averaging 22.7 yards per grab and has already snared six touchdowns.
Becker is definitely a great vertical threat, and it's always nice to have multiple of those. But the Giants already have two of them in Nabers and Fields.
Not to take anything away from Becker, who could certainly help other NFL teams, but he would be too redundant with Fields. I doubt New York will use such an early draft choice on a receiver so similar to the one it just traded draft capital to acquire.
Becker is nice, but he isn't for Big Blue.
