The Green Bay Packers silenced their brash rivals with a masterclass of a win, fueled by Xavier McKinney’s opportunistic ball-hawking and Jordan Love's MVP-like performance in this statement victory.
That was just what the doctor ordered if you're Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers.
The Chicago Bears rolled into town feeling themselves at 3-1. They had reason to feel confident because many have been hailing them as the best team in the NFC, even with starting quarterback Caleb Williams injured. Head coach Ben Johnson has been brash and outspoken about his hatred of the Packers, and he also had a two-game winning streak over his rival head coach, LaFluer.
That included a playoff win last season.
This 31-7 Packers' win doesn't mean that everything is all of a sudden perfect in Green Bay and that the Packers are once again Super Bowl contenders.
They still have things to work on; they're still incredibly banged up (and it got worse in this game) and there are still plenty of long-term questions about the leadership of general manager Brian Gutekunst and LaFleur.
For now, though, all is right in the world. A 24-point win that could have been a 30-point win over your 100-plus-year-old rival, at home, will do that.
The Packers made several awesome plays and several individuals had incredible performances.
With all that said, here are the five stars from this win.
Honorable Mentions: MarShawn Lloyd, Devonte Wyatt, Evan Williams
Star #5: Dani Dennis-Sutton flashed incredible potential for a rookie
There were a ton of plays made by Jonathan Gannon's defense in Week 5. When you hold a high-scoring offense to just seven points, that tends to be the case.
Amongst all the plays that were made, though, rookie defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton really stood out.
The No. 120 pick of the 2026 NFL Draft out of Penn State, DDS looked like a player who could ultimatly make some noise across from another Nittany Lions standout, Micah Parsons.
Dennis-Sutton looked explosive and athletic and he stuff the stat sheet.
He finished this game with three tackles, two quarterback hits, one sack, two tackles for loss, one pass defended and one fumble recovery.
Star #4: Matthew Golden had a career game for the Packers
Speaking of draft picks who the Packers selected because of their elite potential, wideout Matthew Golden is starting to show that potential in year two.
How do you live up to being the first wide receiver a franchise has selected in the first round in over 20 years? You have games against your biggest rival like the one that Golden just had.
He caught six catches for 123 yards, averaging 20.5 yards per catch.
Golden now has 24 catches for 397 yards and two touchdowns in five games. He's on pace for 80-plus reception, 1,000-plus yards and six-plus touchdown.
Star #3: Xavier McKinney once again looks like an All-Pro safety
Xavier McKinney notched eight interceptions in 2024, which was his first in Green Bay. He was a first-team All-Pro and a Defensive Player of the Year candidate.
He played like an All-Pro against Chicago in this one, picking Tyson Bagent off twice.
McKinney now has three interceptions on the season and he's clearly getting more opportunities at the football compared to last season because of the ascension of Evan Williams and slot safety Javon Bullard.
The Packers arguably have the best safety room in the NFL, and McKinney is its leader.
Star #2: Christian Watson is unstoppable over the top
There was once a meme floating around in Christian Watson's rookie season that compared him to Randy Moss. Vikings fans won't like the comparison, but it was spot on then and it feels the same now.
Moss was deadly over the top at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, with great speed and strong hands.
Now that he's stayed healthy for a stretch, Watson is showing off that same kind of talent. He's 6-foot-4, 215 pounds and has become an elite tracker of the moon ball.
Against the Bears, Watson caught six passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns, including this beauty.
Star #1: Jordan Love had an MVP-like performance

Mandatory Credit: Mike Dinovo-Imagn Images.Jordan Love has MVP potential, and it was on full display against the Bears. When he gets time to operate, there's not a better quarterback in the NFL right now.
Credit to the offensive line, because they gave him a ton of time in this one. He was sacked twice, but he mostly played in rhythm and looked extremely confident out there.
Love finished the game with 376 yards and two touchdowns on 25-of-31 passing. He averaged 11.8 yards per reception and boasted a passer-rating of 137.5. That's nearly flawless.
