Green Bay Packers' Matt LaFleur offers a sigh of relief regarding Jayden Reed’s mobility but warns of a grim long-term outlook for Zach Bako-Bewele.
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur seemed to have good news regarding wide receiver Jayden Reed's injury, but not everything he shared was positive.
As expected, it could be a long-term injury for offensive tackle Zach Bako-Bewele, and that's the last thing this depleted offensive line wants to go through.
LaFleur took to the podium after the Packers 20-17 overtime win against the New York Jets. While he addressed a multitude of things, the status of Reed and Bako-Bewele was the first thing on everyone's mind.
LaFleur gives positive injury update on Reed
"I just wanted to give you guys an update, Jayden Reed, he's got movement in all his extremities. He will be staying overnight," LaFleur said, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.
He continued, "That was just obviously a very scary deal. Anytime you see anybody down on the field and have to get carted off."
For those who weren't watching, Reed got hit on the second play of the game and seemed to go limp as he went down on the field. Packers players quickly surrounded him, and the FOX broadcast was forced to take a pair of commercial breaks as they brought out the cart and everything to help get Reed off the field.
Remember, this is a Packers wide receiving core who hasn't been able to play many snaps with the combination of Reed, Tucker Kraft, Matthew Golden, and Christian Watson on the field together.
Only time will tell how quickly Reed is able to recover, but it's important to note the Packers are playing on a short week as they'll host the Atlanta Falcons for Thursday Night Football on Sept. 24.
Not so positive news regarding Bako-Bewele
LaFleur added, "An update on Zach Tom, that doesn't look good either as far as you know, I think he could be out for a long time."
That's all the head coach had to say, but obviously, that's the last thing anyone wanted to hear.
Tom, who changed his last name to Bako-Bewele ahead of the 2026 season, was the Packers fourth round draft pick in 2022.
The 27-year-old was immediately ruled out to a knee injury, and it seemed to be non-contact which always makes everyone assume the worst case scenario.
MetLife Stadium has a tendency to not be one of the kindest fields in the NFL, and Bako-Bewele seems to be the latest example of that.
