After absorbing eight hits against Dallas, Green Bay’s quarterback returned to full practice. Now, he must survive a fierce Lions pass rush to exploit Detroit’s struggling secondary.
The Green Bay Packers placed Jordan Love on the injury report with a back injury on Wednesday after the quarterback took several big hits in Sunday's 23-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys at home.
Love was sacked three times for -15 yards in the win on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 6.
On Wednesday, Love was listed as a limited participant at practice. On Thursday, that changed, with Green Bay listing him as a full participant with just one more practice to go before the team plays the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Per Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated, Love said he was dealing with "lingering" effects from the Packers' win over the Cowboys. He said Wednesday was more of a mental day for him after taking eight hits from the Cowboys’ defense.
Love plans to play the Lions on Sunday. He did call out the pass protection for being an issue that led to the back injury, saying Green Bay needed to limit the amount of hits he takes while in the pocket. He believes the Packers are responding to his message.
Through the first six games, Love has been sacked 13 times and has had to evade the pass rush numerous times behind an offensive line that is trying to find a way to get better at pass protection and as a run-blocking force.
Love has thrown for 1,684 yards, 11 touchdowns, and four interceptions this season. With the running game averaging just 2.9 yards per carry, Love has had to engineer most of the entire offense this season.
The Packers have Josh Jacobs available to play the Lions, which should be a big boost for the offense. However, he could be limited against Detroit, as he needs to get back into football shape after missing the first six weeks of the season after starting the campaign on the commissioner exempt list.
The Packers are set to play a Lions defense that is giving up the most yards per game this season at 404.4 yards per game. While the secondary has been a major concern for Detroit, the Lions are very good at getting after the quarterback.
The Lions have recorded 20 sacks in five games. Their four sacks per game average is the highest in the league. That will be a concern for Green Bay with a quarterback that has taken too many hits in the first six weeks.
