Green Bay faces a brutal start to the season as roster moves sideline star pass rusher Micah Parsons and running back Josh Jacobs, leaving the lineup depleted.
The Green Bay Packers are going to be hurting for star power early in the regular season.
On Sunday, the NFL placed running back Josh Jacobs on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, keeping him out of practice and games until he's removed from the list. He'll be on paid leave with the regular season set to begin in less than two weeks.
Green Bay was already bracing to be without defensive end Micah Parsons to start the season as he recovers from an ACL injury.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Green Bay moved Parsons to the reserve/physically unable to perform list. He'll miss at least the first four games of the season.
"Packers officially moved Micah Parsons to Reserve/PUP, ruling him out for this season’s first four games," Schefter posted on X.
There has been chatter that Parsons could return as soon as Week 6 when the Dallas Cowboys, Parsons’ former team, travels to play Green Bay for "Monday Night Football." Parsons wouldn't commit to returning for that game.
"I think the people really want Week 6. I just want to come back when I'm feeling like myself again. I say Week 6 would be optimistic," Parsons said Bleacher Report's "The Edge" last week.
"The (21-day practice) window opens the first week of October, two, three weeks of practice, but the reality is you gotta feel like yourself, you gotta be moving again. I don't wanna go out there and embarrass myself. That's a real feeling. Packer nation, just know, when I come back, it's going to be up."
Reports have also surfaced that Parsons could miss closer to half of the regular season.
The Packers gave up a lot in return for Parsons before the regular season last year in the hopes that he could make defense better at rushing that passer. He did so before suffering an injury against the Denver Broncos last year.
However, Green Bay will have to win games early in the regular season without one of its best players, if not the best player on the roster.
With Jacobs expected to miss time, the Packers are facing serious adversity early in the season.
