General Manager Brian Gutekunst bolsters Jordan Love’s protection by snagging Mekhi Becton.
The Green Bay Packers have done it again.
For the second time in the past few days, this team has addressed its problems within the offensive line.
General Manager Brian Gutekunst knew that signing Laken Tomlinson was just step one as he looks to protect Jordan Love and make this offense better.
Now, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Mekhi Becton is officially signing with the Green Bay Packers.
Becton, 27, began his career with the New York Jets. He was drafted No. 11 overall back in 2020, and would later play for the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers.
During the 2024 season, Becton was part of the offensive line that protected Jalen Hurts and guided the Eagles to a victory in Super Bowl LIX.
Other career highlights for the Virginia native include being named First-team All-ACC at Louisville in 2019, along with winning the Jacobs Blocking Award the same year.
According to Pro Football Reference, Becton has appeared in 61 NFL games, and he's made 59 starts.
Packers continue to add reinforcements
Becton stands 6-foot-7, 370 pounds, so this is a huge pickup for Love. The Packers star quarterback has been running for his life, and he's seemingly had no time to make a throw if it wasn't his first read.
Fresh off winning the Super Bowl with the Eagles, the Chargers signed him to a two-year, $20 million deal.
He was released earlier this year, and now the Packers scooped him up heading into a crucial Week 4 battle against the 0-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
There are plenty of teams that are unexpectedly struggling this season, but none more than this Packers offense.
Even if Josh Jacobs were around, it doesn't seem like they'd be much better off. This O-Line has been horrendous, and that might even be an understatement.
Becton was the starting right guard during his time in Philadelphia, so it'll be interesting to see where he fits in with the Packers.
As mentioned with the Tomlinson signing, this team has a tendency to move players around to wherever position they need addressed. That's not always the end of the world within the offensive line, but it's nice for these players to have some consistency as they tend to get comfortable in a certain position.
No matter what, Green Bay can at least say they're trying, and not even a rough 1-2 start is enough to make the Packers throw in the towel.
