The Packers should be looking to make some additions on defense.
The Green Bay Packers are currently 4-2 on the season, with the group starting to come together over the last few weeks.
But the Packers have also lost multiple key players to injury on defense, limiting what the unit can do. Both Javon Hargrave and Edgerrin Cooper have gone down with a torn Achilles, leaving Green Bay without a few stars.
Green Bay is still missing Micah Parsons as he recovers from a torn ACL that he suffered a year ago. All the injuries could lead the Packers' front office to look to make some moves before the NFL trade deadline expires this season.
If the Packers do decide to look to add at the trade deadline, one name that could make some sense is veteran pass rusher DeForest Buckner of the Indianapolis Colts. Buckner has made waves in recent days following the Colts' loss in Week, showing his frustration with the team.
This has led to all sorts of trade speculation around the Pro Bowl defender, and the Packers could be a good landing spot for him. Buckner has made three Pro Bowls over his NFL career, and he may be looking for a way out of Indianapolis.
NFL analyst Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report listed Green Bay as one of the top landing spots for Buckner if he is moved. According to Knox, Buckner's trade value could be a fourth-round draft pick, and if this is the case, the Packers should be all over a deal.
If the Packers could add someone like Buckner, giving the defense even more of a boost for the year. Buckner will be a free agent at the end of the season, so Green Bay wouldn't be taking on long-term salary in a potential trade for the veteran.
So far this year, Buckner has played in six games for the Colts, recording 26 total tackles (four for loss), 4.0 sacks, one fumble recovery, and three pass deflections. Buckner has the ability to change a game for his teams, and pairing him alongside the other defenders that the Packers have could be scary.
The star has a strong ability to get to the quarterback, posting at least 6.5 sacks in seven of his last eight seasons in the NFL. If the Packers could add this type of production to the defense, it could help make up for some of the injuries that have taken place.
For Green Bay, this is the type of addition that could move the needle for this team, pushing them closer to being Super Bowl contenders. Of course, any trade is a risk, but Buckner could be a solid move for the Packers front office to consider if he is truly available at the deadline.
