Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray has been ruled out early in the first half against the Green Bay Packers.

Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback Kyler Murray has been ruled out against the Green Bay Packers as he is evaluated for a concussion following a helmet-to-helmet hit by safety Javon Bullard, which resulted in a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty.

Prior to the injury, Murray had completed three of five passes for 18 yards, zero touchdowns, and an interception made by cornerback Keisean Nixon. Murray also rushed for nine yards on two attempts.

Murray was named the starting quarterback by the Vikings this offseason after a battle with JJ McCarthy. Murray won the starting spot, but then Carson Wentz emerged as the backup over McCarthy.

Wentz has taken over for Minnesota against Green Bay and has completed two of five passes for 10 yards with zero touchdowns and zero interceptions.

The veteran quarterback appeared in five games for the Vikings in the 2025 season, completing 65.1 percent of his passes for 1,216 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions while rushing for 57 yards on 11 carries.

The Packers' defense will have to adjust to playing against Wentz, who doesn't have the rushing ability that Murray possesses.

Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson will still be the main player that Green Bay needs to contain, as he has three receptions for 20 yards on four targets through the first 25 minutes of the game.

Minnesota will hope Murray can return to the field in Week 2, as he has shown flashes of being a quality quarterback throughout his career.

Across 87 career games, he completed 67.1 percent of his passes for 20,460 yards, 121 touchdowns, and 60 interceptions. Murray has also been effective on the ground, rushing for 3,193 yards and 32 touchdowns on 532 attempts.

The Packers have a 12-3 lead, but there is still a lot of football left to play, and they can't take their foot off the gas, even with Murray out of the game. Starting off the season with a win would be pivotal for Green Bay as they look to establish themselves as a contender even before star pass rusher Micah Parsons returns from injury.
