Here's why the Green Bay Packers must consider selecting this underrated offensive playmaker in the 2026 NFL Draft.
After a somewhat quiet offseason for the Green Bay Packers, general manager Brian Gutekunst will now begin to focus on the 2026 NFL Draft, which is set to take place in less than a month.
This offseason, the Packers managed to sign multiple depth pieces on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, such as defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and cornerback Benjamin St. Juste. Now, Gutekunst and the front office have an opportunity to add young, talented depth pieces in the upcoming draft.
One area of need that could need some extra firepower this offseason is the running back room, as the organization must find a complementary back to star rusher Josh Jacobs. Outside of Jacobs, Chris Brooks and Marshawn Lloyd are currently the two backups, along with former 2022 fourth-round pick Pierre Strong Jr.
Luckily for the Packers, Wake Forest running back Demond Claiborne could be exactly what the organization’s offense needs during the upcoming draft.
Why Claiborne Fits With Packers

Mandatory Credit: Amber Searls-Imagn ImagesClaiborne, after spending the past four seasons with the Demon Deacons, has quickly become a rising prospect in a weak running back draft class. The 22-year-old playmaker burst onto the season with an incredible 2024 season, recording 1,049 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 228 carries, along with 23 receptions for 254 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
While Claiborne saw a slight reduction in production during his last season at Wake Forest, the talented rusher still posted 907 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns while picking up an additional 140 receiving yards on 28 catches in 2025. Claiborne’s ability to be a dual-threat on offense and his blazing 4.37 40-yard dash make him a terrific mid-round pick for the Packers.
Looking at where Green Bay stands before draft night, the organization currently possesses a total of seven picks, with the team’s first pick residing in the middle of the second round. Fortunately for the Packers, Claiborne is projected to be selected between rounds four and five in this year’s draft.
If the underrated offensive weapon makes it to either pick No. 120 or pick No. 160, Green Bay would be an excellent landing spot for him to develop under the likes of Jacobs throughout the 2026 season and beyond.
