The price of Carolina Panthers' quarterback Bryce Young's next contract continues to go up per an NFL reporter.
The Carolina Panthers return from their bye week with a 2-2 record and fresh off a win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football. That win got the Panthers back to .500 and helped take away the sour taste of a loss at Cleveland the week prior.
As Carolina sits on top of the NFC South through the first five weeks, it's been their offense that has been a big reason why they are in the spot they are. The offense has been fantastic for Carolina behind coordinator Brad Idzik.
His playcalling and style of offense has allowed quarterback Bryce Young to open his game up more with RPO and the vertical passing game.
Young has put together a really good year so far. He's thrown for 1,268 yards, 9 touchdowns, and just 2 interceptions. He's also completed 62.3 percent of his passes this year.
Going into the offseason, the Panthers had a big decision to make. They did pickup his fifth-year option back in April but the long-term contract is still to be decided. Young has certainly played well enough to earn a spot in talks for a long-term deal, and we'd be shocked if the Panthers weren't leaning towards extending his contract.
One NFL reporter believes Young's price is going up, as well.
In Nick Shook's latest NFL power rankings, he has the Panthers at No. 14 right behind the Chicago Bears, a team that beat them in Week 1. But it's what he said when talking about the team that is interesting.
Shook mentions how Young's future contract is only getting more expensive with each outing. He notes how that's a good problem to have in the way that you know who your franchise quarterback is.
It makes a lot of sense the way that Shook explains it, and I have to imagine Carolina feels the same. But right now, it feels like we are still in the "prove it" stage for Young before they fully commit to a huge contract and what it's going to cost.
Young and the Panthers are heading to Philadelphia to take on the 2-3 Eagles, a team that is struggling and coming off a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Carolina is the favorite in the NFC South as it stands right now and another playoff appearance and division title would be huge for the franchise as well as Young.
