Multiple analysts seem to have no faith in the Carolina Panthers entering their game against the Detroit Lions this week.
The Carolina Panthers will be hosting the Detroit Lions this week on Sunday Night Football, looking to improve on what has been a tough season so far.
Carolina sits with a record of 1-2 on the year, with the team showing some inconsistency on the field. The big issue has been the defense for this team, and going up against a tough Detroit offense, it's put up time for this unit.
Quarterback Bryce Young has looked good so far this season, putting some concerns around his game to bed. But heading into this game, Carolina seems to be behind the eight ball, at least with people's predictions.
NFL.com experts Jeremy Bergman, Brooke Cersosimo, Gennaro Filice, Bobby Kownack, and Dan Parr all predicted the game this week, showing no faith in the Panthers to win. All five analysts took the Lions to win, making it a clean sweep for Detroit.
Carolina understands that they will have to earn the respect of those around the league, especially after the performance from last week. This game against the Lions does offer them a chance to make a statement in the national spotlight, which isn't something that the Panthers get often.
The big key for the Panthers this week will be how the defense handles going up against the strong Lions offensive attack. Detroit has playmakers all over the field on offense, and this could cause problems for Carolina, which has been prone to giving up a lot of yards.
If the Panthers can pressure quarterback Jared Goff early and often in this game, it could help this group out. Carolina invested a lot of money into the defense over the offseason, but at least through the first few games, nothing has worked out well.
This contest against the Lions does give this unit an opportunity to come together to show out in front of the home fans. But Carolina will have to take every snap seriously, making sure to stay focused throughout against this tough Lions offense.
Thankfully for the Panthers, their offense can be explosive as well, and the Lions' defense hasn't been that great. Detroit has done a good job of pressuring the quarterback, but they have also been prone to chunk yardage, and Young is going to have to take advantage.
Due to both teams having questionably poor defenses, this game could be a potential shootout, offering fans an exciting Sunday night matchup. But only time will tell if the Panthers can keep up with the Lions, as the team looks to even up their record at .500 for the season.
