An NFL insider believes the Carolina Panthers are being disrespected still after a 3-2 start and first place in the NFC South.
The Carolina Panthers were able to come out of the bye week with a big road win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The win moved Carolina to 3-2 on the year, holding first place in the NFC South through the first six weeks.
Carolina is now on a two-game win streak with a home win over Detroit on Sunday Night Football and then Sunday's win over the Eagles. Both could play a part in NFC playoff seeding too.
Ideally, Carolina won't have to worry about that if they can win their division and host a playoff game. But even with the Panthers winning on Sunday and making some more noise, one NFL analyst believes they are being disrespected still.
In Albert Breer's latest column for Sports Illustrated, he talked about the Panthers as being one of the teams that should earn everyone's respect. Breer points to the turnaround for the franchise, going from the Matt Rhule era to Frank Reich and now where they are at with Dave Canales.
The head coach deserves a lot of respect for what he's been able to accomplish, getting them to the playoffs last season and hanging with the Los Angeles Rams despite losing the game. This season, Canales has his team in position to win the NFC South once again.
General manager Dan Morgan also deserves some respect as Scott Fitterer put this franchise in a hole. Morgan has been able to fix the roster and while he's still building the final product, he's off to a good start.
Carolina's win over Philadelphia is a good one despite them not having quarterback Jalen Hurts. Breer wrote on the Eagles in that piece as well and he believes that Philadelphia is still a good team that shouldn't be taken lightly by others moving forward this season.
All in all, it's good to see the Panthers earn some national attention. They deserve it.
They proved they were a good team by beating the Lions in primetime, and now getting another win should help. But they can't relax, either. The job isn't finished and it's not a guarantee they win the division despite it being pretty weak overall.
The goal for Carolina shouldn't be just winning the division. It should be winning a playoff game and advancing as far as they can.
The Panthers are next on the field this Sunday in Week 7 when they face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
