Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales revealed what he wants to see from QB Bryce Young in Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons.
The Carolina Panthers face the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2 after losing to the Chicago Bears in Week 1.
Panthers QB Bryce Young has had a lot of success in Atlanta. It's a topic that came up during Dave Canales' media session with reporters on 9/16.
"I'm glad that he's found success playing in that stadium; I hope it happens again for Bryce to show up," Canales said. "But for me it's just about consistency; it's not about the team we're playing. I don't think there's any magical geographical thing behind this at all. But for Bryce, I just want to see him build off of last week. He had a phenomenal game in my opinion, but there are some things that he left out there that he knows he'd be up here telling you about the same plays, and I just want to see him take another step."
Young went 23/37 through the air for 361 passing yards against the Bears. He had three touchdown passes and one interception.
The QB also had one rushing touchdown.
It's not Young's fault that the Panthers' defense gave up 59 points to the Bears. Carolina scored 37 points and put up 478 yards of total offense.
The Panthers' offense did their job. The defense needs to be better moving forward.
Young is set to make $12.1 million this season in the fourth year of his rookie deal. His fifth-year option is worth a guaranteed $25.9 million.
The Panthers didn't sign Young to an extension, so the QB has to play well again this season to get paid next offseason.
If Young plays as he did in Week 1 for the rest of the season, he will get paid handsomely next offseason.
In five total games (4-1) against the Falcons, Young has completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 1,133 yards, seven touchdowns and just two interceptions for a 95.3 rating. He hasn't lost to the Falcons since the 2023 opener.
In week 1, Young joined Steve Beuerlein in 1999 as just the second quarterback in Carolina franchise history to throw for 350 yards and three touchdowns and run for a score.
