The New England Patriots (3-2) are returning to health, and Sunday afternoon’s contest against the New York Jets (2-3) will showcase that on both sides of the football.

Now under 90 minutes until kickoff, each squad has been finalized. And for the first time in several weeks, New England may be on the more optimistic side of the game day injury report — creating several matchup advantages for the home team to exploit in a classic AFC East division rivalry.

Here’s who’s in — and out — of the Patriots’ Week 6 clash against New York:

Inactives

New England Patriots

The following players on New England’s’ 53-man roster will not be active this afternoon:

  • TE Tanner Arkin
  • CB Channing Canada
  • OT Dametrious Crownover
  • CB Carlton Davis III
  • QB Behren Morton
  • CB Karon Prunty

The Patriots’ defense continues to be shorthanded in the secondary, but will be the beneficiaries of their top-dog rejoining the starters this afternoon. After four corners missed New England’s Week 5 win, three remain sidelined this Sunday. Carlton Davis (neck) was first injured in the season opener and has been battling his way back into the lineup ever since. He played in Weeks 3 and 4, but has now missed two consecutive games after aggravating the injury. Channing Canada (hamstring) and Karon Prunty (hamstring) will miss their second straight games.

Even down three cornerbacks, more notable for the Patriots entering Sunday are the players not present on their game day inactives list — many of whom are resuming their roles earlier than expected.

New York Jets

The Jets will not be dressing the following players:

  • RB Breece Hall
  • DT Jack Heflin
  • WR Adonai Mitchell
  • ED Joseph Ossai
  • G Dylan Parham
  • CB Nashon Wright

New England may be welcoming key contributors back today, but New York wasn’t as fortunate on the injury front. The Jets will be without their top running back, Breece Hall (quad), and starting left guard, Dylan Parham (knee), for the third straight game. New York’s number-two wide receiver, Adonai Mitchell (finger), will miss his fourth consecutive contest, while rotational edge rusher Joseph Ossai (ankle) will also be out after previously missing Weeks 1 and 2.

Injury Report

The Patriots’ Week 6 injury report was one of the most closely monitored topics entering Sunday, and has taken a much different form than previously expected:

New England Patriots

New England will be welcoming back several key pieces on both sides of the ball when the action kicks off this afternoon.

On offense, A.J. Brown (knee) will suit up for the first time since the season opener. He was designated to return from injured reserve to begin the week and officially activated on Saturday. Drake Maye and the Patriots’ red-hot passing attack will receive a huge boost with his presence, although it remains to be seen how involved he will actually be in his first snaps back.

Joining Brown, both TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) and Will Campbell (knee) will be active against the Jets. Each exited New England’s Week 5 win with what looked-to-be more severe injuries that would force them to miss time, but logged limited participation in practice and will be in the lineup for gameday.

On defense, Christian Gonzalez (shoulder) will resume his role as a lock-down corner along the boundary after missing the last two games — and the timing couldn’t be better. He’ll look to shut down Garrett Wilson in a matchup he’s gotten the better of in the pair’s previous encounters.

Christian Elliss (chest), and Craig Woodson (shoulder) were listed as questionable, but will take the field this afternoon. Elliss and Woodson carried the same game day status and played last week, as well.

New York Jets

New York was hopeful to see some of their playmakers back on the field, but won’t have the same luck as New England on that front.

In the backfield, Hall has had previous success against Patriots, but his statline wasn’t inspiring when he was active to begin the regular season. He carried the ball 51 times in three games, gained 163 yards (3.2 yards per carry) and scored one touchdown, while adding 10 receptions on as many targets for 102 yards receiving (10.2 yards per catch). In his stead, Braelon Allen starred in the Jets’ win last week with 24 rushes, 116 yards, and one touchdown.

On the perimeter, Adonai Mitchell caught nine of 15 targets for 123 yards in New York’s first two games as a regularly involved complementary piece. Rookie Omar Cooper Jr. also projected to be integral as the top slot receiver, but only logged one catch before landing on injured reserve after Week 1. He has been designated to return from injured reserve, and like Brown, was activated prior to game day.

Another star rookie, tight end Kenyon Sadiq, will also be a factor when the action begins. He cleared concussion protocol and has been the second option in the Jets’ passing game, ranking second on the team in receptions (14), targets (21), and total touchdowns (two), and third in receiving yards (146).

Practice Squad Elevations

These players were called-up from the practice squad for Sunday’s AFC East showdown:

New England Patriots

The Patriots made one practice squad elevation for Week 6: safety Elliott Davison.

Davison was signed to New England’s practice squad on September 3 and saw his first-career regular season snaps as a practice squad elevation last week. On nine coverage snaps, he allowed one reception on three targets for six yards and posted the team’s second-highest coverage grade (83.5, per PFF).

New York Jets

New York also elevated one player from the practice squad for game day: linebacker Jaden Keller.

An undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech, Keller has been added to the game day roster for each of the last three games. He’s played 39 snaps — all on special teams — and has recorded one tackle.
