With free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft complete, the New England Patriots now have their first look at a preliminary 90-man roster for the upcoming season. How does each position group look heading into the summer? We break it down position-by-position here.

Free agency and the NFL Draft are in the books, and the New England Patriots have filled out their preliminary 90-man roster for the 2026 season.

While their roster will still undergo several different evolutions before the year officially kicks off — perhaps as early as June 1 — New England now has a realistic baseline for what their team will look like as they prepare to make another playoff push.

Here’s an overview of the Patriots’ current 2026 90-man roster:

Quarterbacks (3)

Tommy DeVito, Drake Maye, Behren Morton (Rookie)

While Maye looks to repeat his 2025 MVP-caliber performance, New England re-signed Tommy DeVito and added Behren Morton with the 234th overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Running Backs (6)

TreVeyon Henderson, Terrell Jennings, Lan Larison, Jam Miller (Rookie), Myles Montgomery (Rookie), Rhamondre Stevenson

Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson return as the Patriots’ top rushing duo, but the room behind them is filled with uncertainty. Terrell Jennings filled in at times down the stretch of the regular season, while Lan Larison missed 2025 on injured reserve after being acquired as a rookie free agent. Jam Miller was drafted 245th overall and Myles Montgomery was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent to fill out the room this spring. They’ll each compete for the RB3 role this fall.

Fullbacks (3)

Reggie Gilliam, Brock Lampe, Jack Westover

Jack Westover served as New England’s primary fullback in 2025, converting from tight end to fill in the hole left by fellow undrafted rookie free agent Brock Lampe’s year-long stint on injured reserve. With neither a proven commodity, the Patriots brought in Reggie Gilliam — the NFL’s highest-graded fullback last season — via the Buffalo Bills in free agency to revitalize the room. Gilliam will be stiff competition for Westover and Lampe, although a switch back to tight end is not totally out of the realm of possibility for the former. Either way, both players will have their work cut out for them as they search for a pathway to a roster spot.

Wide Receivers (12)

Kayshon Boutte, Efton Chism III, Nick DeGennaro (Rookie), Kyle Dixon (Rookie), Cameron Dorner (Rookie), Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Jimmy Kibble (Rookie), Jeremiah Webb, Kyle Williams

New England added Romeo Doubs to an ascending young receiving core this offseason and is expected to acquire A.J. Brown after June 1, so this room will likely look different — especially at the top — in short order. That may mean a departure, as well, with Kayshon Boutte rumored to be available and DeMario Douglas’ future uncertain beyond 2026. Still, there is reason to believe that the receiver room will be filled with more talent at the top than there’s been in several years in Foxboro. Kyle Williams is primed for a year-two leap and Mack Hollins will return as a versatile contributor at multiple receiver spots. Several undrafted rookies were signed (Nick DeGennaro, Kyle Dixon, Cameron Dorner, Jimmy Kibble) to compete with incumbent Efton Chism III and round out the group.

Tight Ends (5)

Tanner Arkin (Rookie), C.J. Dippre, Hunter Henry, Julian Hill, Eli Raridon (Rookie)

Hunter Henry returns for his age 32 season coming off of a career-year in 2025 and entering the final season of his contract with the Patriots. New England added depth to the group behind him in blocking specialist Julian Hill and Notre Dame rookie Eli Raridon, with C.J. Dippre and undrafted rookie free agent Tanner Arkin competing to carve out a role on the final 53-man roster.

Offensive Tackles (8)

Marcus Bryant, Will Campbell, Dametrious Crownover (Rookie), Sebastian Gutierrez, James Hudson, Caleb Lomu (Rookie), Lorenz Metz (Rookie - International Player Pathway Program), Morgan Moses

Will Campbell and Morgan Moses return as leading candidates to start at offensive tackle for the Patriots in 2026, but the room will look very different around them. 2025 seventh round pick Marcus Bryant will battle rookies Caleb Lomu and Dametrious Crownover for swing tackle duties, with Sebastian Gutierrez, James Hudson, and Lorenz Metz all added as developmental depth additions. As part of the International Player Pathway Program, Metz does not count against the 90-man roster limit, and is New England’s “91st” player.

Interior Offensive Linemen (9)

Ben Brown, Mekhi Butler, JonDarius Morgan (Rookie), Mike Onwenu, Jacob Rizy (Rookie), Andrew Rupcich, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Caeden Wallace, Jared Wilson

The interior offensive line will look a lot different for the Patriots in 2026, with Jared Wilson sliding over to his collegiate position at center and Alijah Vera-Tucker entering as a high-end upgrade at guard. Mike Onwenu leads the room, but enters the year on an expiring contract. Behind their starters, Ben Brown will likely continue to serve as a “super-sub” at all three positions. Anything beyond those four is uncertain, as Caeden Wallace was a regular gameday inactive in 2025 and Mekhi Butler, Andrew Rupcich, JonDarius Morgan, and Jacob Rizy are all new additions with varied projections.

Edge Rushers (7)

Gabe Jacas (Rookie), Dre’Mont Jones, Harold Landry III, Jesse Luketa, Elijah Ponder, Bradyn Swinson, Quintayvious Hutchins (Rookie)

Edge rusher underwent a minor makeover this offseason, with Dre’Mont Jones and second round pick Gabe Jacas headlining reasons for optimism in 2026. Moreover, hope springs eternal in the building that Harold Landry III will be healthy and return to form this fall, while depth pieces Elijah Ponder and Bradyn Swinson are set to take a jump in year two. Jesse Luketa and seventh round pick Quintayvious Hutchins will compete with Ponder and Swinson to round out the room.

Interior Defensive Linemen (8)

Christian Barmore, David Blay Jr. (Rookie), Cory Durden, Joshua Farmer, Eric Gregory, Jeremiah Pharms Jr., Leonard Taylor III, Milton Williams

Milton Williams and Christian Barmore will look to wreak havoc on opposing backfields yet again this season, while Cory Durden ascended in the postseason and Joshua Farmer is slated to return from a mid-season injury that landed the rookie on injured reserve to finish his campaign. Jeremiah Pharms, Eric Gregory, and late-season addition Leonard Taylor III (blocked field goal attempt in AFC Championship Game) all made the most of limited opportunities in 2025. David Blay Jr. enters as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Miami — where the New England front office is very well-connected — and shows potential to fill the Khyiris Tonga-sized hole left at the nose tackle spot.

Off-Ball Linebackers (7)

K.J. Britt, Christian Elliss, Amari Gainer, Khalil Jacobs (Rookie), Chad Muma, Namdi Obiazor (Rookie), Otis Reese IV, Robert Spillane

At Off-Ball Linebacker, New England did as much subtracting as they did adding this offseason. K.J. Britt, Amari Gainer, Otis Reese IV, sixth round pick Namdi Obiazor and rookie free agent Khalil Jacobs all arrive competing for roles behind incumbent starters Robert Spillane and Christian Elliss. Chad Muma returns as an under-the-radar late-season addition in 2025 that carved out a role on special teams to end the year and has shown the versatility to serve as a rotational substitute on defense.

Cornerbacks (11)

Channing Canada (Rookie), Brandon Crossley, Carlton Davis III, Marcellas Dial Jr., Christian Gonzalez, Kenneth Harris (Rookie), Marcus Jones, Kobee Minor, Karon Prunty (Rookie), Kindle Vildor, Charles Woods

The dynamic star trio of Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis III, and Marcus Jones are set to each resume their roles atop the Patriots’ cornerback depth chart in 2026. Behind them is an open competition, with in-season addition Charles Woods, training camp standout Marcellas Dial Jr., Kobee Minor, and Brandon looking to re-secure a spot with the club. Free agent acquisition Kindle Vildor and rookies Karon Prunty, Channing Canada, and Kenneth Harris will look to disrupt the room and steal a roster spot to round out the position group.

Safeties (6)

Mike Brown, Kevin Byard III, Dell Pettus, John Saunders Jr., Brenden Schooler, Craig Woodson

A shakeup at the top of the safety room with Kevin Byard’s arrival in Foxboro could be New England’s biggest offseason upgrade. Byard will pair with Craig Woodson to roam the third level of the defense, with Dell Pettus and Brenden Schooler resuming their roles and new additions Mike Brown and John Saunders Jr. competing for a depth role in the secondary.

Specialists

Kickers (1)

Andy Borregales

Andy Borregales’ rookie year may have gotten off to a rocky start, but the kicker bounced back big for the Patriots with an impressive first year campaign that left no doubts about his return in 2026.

Punters (1)

Bryce Baringer

Bryce Baringer experienced ups and downs last season and enters the final year of his contract in 2026. While there are no other punters currently on the 90-man roster, competition was expected to arrive this spring — and it may have, with former Indiana Hoosiers punter Mitch McCarthy accepting an invitation to attend rookie minicamp. We’ll see if that leads to more opportunities later in the summer.

Long Snappers (2)

Julian Ashby, Niko Lalos

2025 seventh round pick Julian Ashby returns to Foxboro this season with new competition in the room, as Niko Lalos was signed this spring. Lalos is a former defensive lineman that converted to long snapper, and it’s unclear which role he’ll assume with the Patriots. It would be entertaining to monitor a long snapping battle, however.

Looking Ahead

New England’s first 90-man roster of the 2026 season is set… for now. With rookie minicamp in early May and trade rumors circling as the calendar inches closer to June, there’s still a more than likely chance that the team’s roster entering training camp includes some outstanding changes that have yet to be finalized.

We’ll continue to monitor how the roster takes shape in the coming weeks as the Patriots keep strengthening the foundation around Drake Maye and positioning the franchise for sustained success.
