The Las Vegas Raiders coaching staff is starting to form under Klint Kubiak, and he's bringing on an assistant head coach with a credible resume.

The Las Vegas Raiders coaching staff is beginning to take shape under new head coach Klint Kubiak as he wraps up his Super Bowl LX celebrations with the Seattle Seahawks. According to ESPN, they are expected to hire Mike McCoy to be Kubiak’s assistant head coach. It’s a move that speaks to strengthening up the experience on the coaching staff, and that’ll be essential to traversing the organizational issues that have afflicted the franchise and each attempted next head coach in trying to stabilize it. Kubiak has the Xs and Os down, but with the lack of CEO-type experience, it makes sense to bring in someone like McCoy.

McCoy was the interim head coach for the Tennessee Titans after the team fired Brian Callahan last October. Prior to that, he was the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers from 2013 to 2016, leading them to a 27-37 record and one playoff appearance in 2013. He has been on several other staffs as offensive coordinator. He has a relationship with Kubiak, as while he was the OC for the Denver Broncos, Kubiak worked under him as an offensive assistant.

Here is the full story from Raiders Roundtable writer Nick Radosevich on the latest hire.

Klubiak will be the franchise’s fifth head coach since 2021. The Las Vegas has had a new general manager in each of the past three seasons. It’s a lot of turnover and clearly speaks to a lack of stability that Kubiak is challenging himself to task on. Bringing on a more experienced assistant head coach speaks to his acknowledgment of that.
