Kirk Cousins has completed 21 passes of at least 20 yards through six games, giving the Raiders a source of explosive plays despite their recent struggles.

The Las Vegas Raiders have struggled to maintain their early-season momentum, but quarterback Kirk Cousins has continued to produce big plays in coach Klint Kubiak's offense.

And one statistic illustrates just how dangerous the passing attack can be.

Cousins has completed 21 passes of at least 20 yards through six games, according to the Raiders' official statistics.

The 38-year-old quarterback has thrown for 1,582 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 63.4% of his passes.

Those numbers have helped keep Las Vegas competitive even as the team has struggled to turn offensive production into victories.

The Raiders opened Kubiak's first season as head coach with three consecutive wins, defeating the Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Chargers and New Orleans Saints.

But the early excitement has given way to frustration.

Las Vegas has lost three straight games, falling to the Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills.

Despite those setbacks, Cousins has continued to generate explosive passing plays.

He completed six passes of at least 20 yards during a 30-27 loss to Kansas City on Oct. 4, his highest total in a game this season.

He followed with four such completions against New England and another four against Buffalo.

That means 14 of his 21 completions of at least 20 yards have come during the Raiders' three-game losing streak.

Cousins also threw for 313 yards and two touchdowns in last Sunday's 33-30 loss to the Bills.

His production reflects the potential of an offense that Kubiak has been working to establish since taking over in Las Vegas.

Cousins brought extensive NFL experience to the Raiders, and his ability to execute Kubiak's system helped the team get off to its surprising start.

The quarterback's leadership and efficiency were among the qualities highlighted in an earlier evaluation of the Raiders' offense.

But explosive passing plays alone have not been enough to prevent the team's recent slide.

The Raiders have also struggled to establish a consistent rushing attack, placing additional pressure on Cousins to move the offense.

Kubiak has acknowledged the problem, previously taking responsibility for improving the rushing attack.

Those challenges have raised questions about whether Las Vegas can recapture its early momentum.

The team enters Sunday's home game against the Los Angeles Rams looking to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat.

As recent predictions for the matchup indicate, some analysts believe the Raiders have an opportunity to end their losing streak.

For Cousins, Sunday's challenge is straightforward.

He has already demonstrated that he can generate big gains through the air.

Now the Raiders need those plays to help produce another victory.
