The Las Vegas Raiders hired Pete Carroll as head coach, acquired quarterback Geno Smith in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, and hired Chip Kelly as the offensive coordinator going into the 2025 season.
In December, Smith's future in Las Vegas is shaky, at best, and Kelly was fired as the OC after just 11 games.
But, Kelly is still looking for a job, and he has already landed an interview to be a college offensive coordinator again.
According to Pete Nakos of On3, Kelly interviewed for the Georgia Tech OC opening.
"Sources tell On3 that former UCLA head coach, Ohio State and Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly has emerged as a name of note. Sources have confirmed that Kelly has interviewed for the position. Jackets Online reported Wednesday that Kelly was at Georgia Tech’s bowl practice prep, checking things out."
Georgia Tech saw OC Buster Faulkner go to the Florida Gators and join the new Jon Sumrall-led coaching staff.
That leaves an opening, and now Kelly is drawing consideration to join Brent Key, who just signed a contract extension at Georgia Tech.
After being fired, Kelly did express gratitude for the opportunity.
“I am grateful for the opportunity with the Raiders, bottom line in this league you have to win," Kelly said. "I really loved those players, I’m a huge, HUGE Geno Smith fan, that was one of the best parts of this experience for me, working with Geno and those guys every day. But hey, we gotta win. I get it.”
Kelly was at Ohio State in 2024, then went to Las Vegas, and now he could be returning to college once again.
Just two years ago, he was the head coach at UCLA before leaving to Columbus, so it has been a lot of changes for Kelly.
