The Los Angeles Rams are searching for another quarterback, and they could find that late in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Los Angeles Rams are in great hands at the quarterback position for the 2026 season. Matthew Stafford will once again lead the charge after his MVP-caliber season.
That said, the Rams will still be looking to find the potential successor to Stafford, though they are not in a rush to do so in 2026. That also does not mean the team isn't looking for outside quarterback help, whether that is through free agency or the draft.
While the Rams have the pieces to compete for a Super Bowl, their chances hinge on Stafford’s availability. Given his history of injuries — particularly during his time in Los Angeles — the team will need a reliable backup quarterback to step in if necessary.
There have been rumors of the Rams wanting Kirk Cousins or Jimmy Garoppolo back with the team. However, if they don't happen to sign either of them, the Rams could look to find their future signal caller late in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Los Angeles will have options, but here are the three quarterbacks they should truly consider late in the draft.
Drew Allar
The Penn State quarterback has great size, standing at roughly 6-foot-5, which categorizes him as a strong and prototypical NFL QB height. He has a ton of experience in college, starting 35 games and playing in a total of 45.
Allar's accuracy and consistency are certainly a work in progress, as he tends to miss targets or struggle under pressure. Allar finished his time at Penn State with 7,402 yards, 61 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and a 63.2 completion percentage.
Even with his struggles, Allar has tools that Sean McVay could use to their advantage, including his size and arm to attack vertical concepts and intermediate throws. He has high upside at the next level.
Garrett Nussmeier
Nussmeier might be the best fit for the Rams when it comes to selecting a quarterback late in the draft. He was a highly productive gunslinger known for his elite arm talent and ability to throw the ball under immense pressure in his time at LSU.
The Louisiana native is projected to be a late Day 2, early Day 3, and that's where the Rams can come in and scoop him up.
Nussmeier is arguably the best fit for the Rams, as he possesses good anticipation, rhythm, and accuracy. On top of that, he has most of the tools to be a stellar fit for McVay, including high pocket IQ, timing, anticipation, and ability to hit intermediate reads, aligning with a scheme that thrives off timing and precision.
Nussmeier finished his collegiate career with 7,699 yards, 52 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions, with a 64.0 completion percentage.
Sitting behind Stafford for a season or two could do the 24-year-old wonders. On the downside, he is an older prospect.
Taylen Green
Green is far from the safest bet, but he has a ton of excitement in his game.
The Razorback quarterback is a raw talent with an outstanding athletic profile that includes excellent size and running ability. In regard to being Stafford's successor, Green's dual threat tools could mesh well with McVay's creative play design for years to come.
Green may need time to reach his full potential, but with McVay guiding his development, that timeline could be accelerated.
Green picked up 9,662 yards, 59 touchdowns, 35 interceptions, with 2,405 rushing yards and 35 rushing touchdowns.
