Kobie Turner calls this Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman the "brains" of the operation.
All eyes will be on the Los Angeles Rams defense this upcoming season, especially on the defensive line.
Myles Garrett garners a ton of attention and rightfully so; however, the defensive line has a ton of depth, and their unsung hero in that position may be Tyler Davis.
According to Kobie Turner, Davis is the "brains" of the operation regarding the defensive line.
"TD [Tyler Davis] is the brain of our whole operation," Turner said.
"A couple of days ago, he came in; he's not practicing, but he's like, 'Alright, when they're in 13P,' he's looking at the different looks they have to give us keys.
Turner also added that he’s been making plays with the first team as well.
"So he's kind of the brain power that makes this whole thing work, and he holds down that second group.
"Honestly, when he comes in, he's able to make some really good plays, as well as in that first group," Turner said.
As things stand, Davis is the projected backup to Braden Fiske.
The 25-year-old will enter his third year in the league. Davis has missed only one game in his career but has started only one game, which came last season.
Davis' workload increased significantly from his rookie season to 2025. After logging 299 defensive snaps (29 percent) as a rookie, he appeared in 475 defensive snaps last season, accounting for 42 percent of the Rams' defensive plays.
By all accounts, that number is expected to rise in 2026, especially if Davis continues to show out in training camp. So far, Davis has looked solid and steady in the early days of camp.
Davis was already viewed as a valuable depth piece along the Rams' defensive line, but in 2026, he has an opportunity to prove he can handle an even larger role and showcase his versatility.
Although there is some stiff competition in front of him, Davis has a chance to become an even bigger piece of what is expected to be a loaded Rams defense.
Turner's role in the rotation is firmly established, and he's eager to see Davis take the next step and help make the Rams' defensive line one of the league's most dominant units.
Selected a year before Davis, Turner wasted little time establishing himself as one of the league's premier defensive ends. The 27-year-old is now entering the final year of his rookie deal.
The Rams drafted Davis with the 196th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Clemson.
In Davis’ career thus far, he’s recorded 72 total tackles, three tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, two passes defended and one fumble recovery in 33 games.
Davis has totaled just 1.5 sacks through his first two NFL seasons, but with Garrett likely drawing the bulk of the attention, he could find more opportunities to get after the quarterback in 2026.
