Following a strong offseason, Los Angeles Rams running back Blake Corum looks poised to have a huge year in 2026.
The Los Angeles Rams have finished up their training camp and are headed back to the Woodland Hills facility, with their first preseason game being next Saturday.
Following the final training camp practice on Thursday, running back Blake Corum spoke to the media and talked about his offseason training routine, which could help him have a big year for this offense.
“Yeah, my offseason training, I had the chance to go back home and train with the trainer, Kevin Johnson, that I trained with growing up as a kid. And you know, his whole philosophy was working the nervous system training without shoes on, working your fast-twitch muscles and creating the stiff ankle.
"So, you know, I feel like when you apply that to the field, especially at the running back position, it allows me creating that stiff ankle, and that fast-twitch allows me to, you know, plant, cut, burst, you know, quicker than, you know, I have before," Corum said.
With Corum heading into his third year in the NFL, he now has a lot more experience which could help him to have his best season yet. Corum's training routine could also go a long way in helping him to strengthen each aspect of his game.
"And so, I definitely think, you know, I've seen, you know, how my training this offseason has translated in terms of, you know, that fast-twitch and creating that stiff ankle, you know, faster cuts. And so, you know, I'm just going to continue to work on it, um, and be the best version of myself, you know, that I can this year," Corum added.
As Corum talked about, he and his trainer worked on having a stiff ankle to allow him to make cuts and plant off his foot a lot quicker, which could help him generate significantly more explosive plays in the run game and as a receiver.
During the 2025 season, Corum was solid for the Rams as he tallied 145 carries for 746 yards, six touchdowns, and 44 first downs while averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Corum also contributed in the receiving game as he recorded eight receptions for 36 yards and picked up two first downs.
Corum was quite productive on the ground, but heading into next season, his ability to create explosive runs could be something that adds another element to what is already a very explosive offense.
In terms of Corum's explosive plays last season, he had a total of five runs that went 20 yards or longer, with his longest run of the season being 48 yards.
The more Corum continues to refine his footwork and make faster cuts, the more explosive runs he can generate, which will very likely earn him more carries. On that note, Corum will be competing with fellow running back Kyren Williams to earn more carries, but despite the competition, Corum and Williams seem to deeply respect each other and push each other each and every day.
Last season, Williams was the Rams' lead back as he totaled 259 carries for 1,252 yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, and 74 first downs, which led to an average of 4.8 yards per carry.
Even with Williams being the lead back, he continues to work with Corum, which could turn this running back workload more into a split-carry situation and could help Williams and Corum to stay healthy deep into the season.
If Corum can continue to progress leading up to the season as he competes with Williams for more reps, Corum could have an opportunity to have his best season yet and put this Rams rushing attack in a position to be the most productive and dynamic in the entire NFL.
