The Los Angeles Rams have waived wide receiver Mario Williams while signing Alex Bachman.

The Los Angeles Rams have waived preseason standout wide receiver Mario Williams. Williams appeared in the preseason opener and picked up 51 yards on two kick returns.

Unfortunately, Williams suffered a hamstring injury that has now led to an injury settlement. The Rams also announced the signing of Alex Bachman to take up the roster spot of Williams.

Williams had already been a roster bubble player, so it makes sense that the front office would instead bring in a replacement. This is the usual case for players who are competing for a roster spot between now and when teams have to cut down 90 players to 53.

The Rams 53-man roster must be finalized on Aug. 30 by 6 PM EST.

Bachman has familiarity with the Rams, as he was on the practice squad back in the 2019 season. The receiver went undrafted out of Wake Forest and landed with Los Angeles, but was waived with an injury settlement shortly after.

Bachman would go on to play for the New York Giants from 2019 to 2021 and was on the Houston Texans practice squad from 2022 to 2023.

Following Bachman's stints with the Giants and Texans, he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he remained from 2023 to 2025.

Bachman got the most action as a member of the Raiders, appearing in 13 games during the 2025 season.

Despite only picking up 12 yards on two receptions, Bachman was utilized in the punt return game far more, as he picked up 124 punt return yards on 22 attempts.

The Rams' wide receiver room is arguably the unit that has the most depth, as it is led by Davante Adams and Puka Nacua.

Xavier Smith, Jordan Whittington, and Konata Mumpfield represent the potential to land the coveted WR3 spot next to Adams and Nacua, and the Rams also drafted CJ Daniels in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Daniels picked up 18 yards on two receptions in the preseason opener, while the additional three did not see any action.

There is also the highly stacked tight end room that consists of Colby Parkinson, Terrence Ferguson, Tyler Higbee, and Max Klare. Davis Allen is also in the room but is dealing with an injury that has kept him out.

It is a highly likely chance that one of the tight ends will assume the WR3 position if one of the aforementioned receivers does not emerge as a strong target for quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Bachman has a chance to showcase his skills in preseason, but he will have a tough time separating himself from the group and leaping up the depth chart come Aug. 30.
