Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams offered a ringing endorsement of what Trent McDuffie can do.
The Los Angeles Rams were very intentional when it came to rebuilding the cornerback room, as the team set out to send a first-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie. General manager Les Snead also signed his teammate, Jaylen Watson, giving the defense two strong cover corners.
McDuffie's capabilities continue to be showcased in training camp, and wide receiver Davante Adams offered some huge compliments to the secondary defender.
"I mean, I can honestly say I don't know if I'll get a better look than what I get from Trent out there. I mean, he's and I don't like doing this cuz I don't like putting, you know, big expectations or, you know, bulletin board material, any of that stuff. But at the end of the day, I can't remember the last time I felt about the way I feel about him, about another corner," Adams said.
McDuffie has been matched up with Adams throughout camp, giving the longtime and proven veteran some strong competition in terms of allowing the receiver to catch the ball.
McDuffie suffered a knee injury that knocked him out for multiple games in 2025, but he still managed to bring in one interception, one sack, seven passes defended, and 63 total tackles. He also posted a 63.3 completion percentage and 95.5 passer rating against opposing quarterbacks.
While McDuffie gave up four touchdowns, those scores could have been due to blown coverages or many other instances. Simply put, he was a solid cover corner.
On Pro Football Focus, McDuffie had a 12th-best 75.6 overall grade and an 11th-best 78.5 run defense grade.
The Rams are expected to use the corner and Watson in run-stop situations, as both are very good in that field for being members of the secondary.
"I don't want to gas him up too much and have everybody thinking that he's you know going to win MVP this year, but I'm really happy with what I see, and I mean it's going it's the epitome of iron sharpens iron. He's made some plays on me. I got him a couple times yesterday and I'm assuming that's how it'll be all year," Adams added.
McDuffie will be tasked with stopping some of the biggest wide receivers in the game, along with those in the NFC West like Jaxson Smith-Njigba. If the Rams corner can hold his own against Adams, that is already a good sign.
Los Angeles also made strides in their defense in general, adding reigning Defensive Player of the Year and perennial edge rusher Myles Garrett. While Garrett is dealing with soreness and has not practiced, he is another element that the offense has to worry about.
Should the Rams' pass rushers not accomplish their goals of getting at the quarterback, it will be up to McDuffie and the secondary to lock things down in the passing game, and vice versa.
Everything will have to come together under defensive coordinator Chris Shula but there are defenders who can test the offense in a major way, as are playmakers like Adams who can do the same as training camp rolls on.
