The Los Angeles Rams have opened the practice window for rookie offensive lineman Keagen Trost.
The Los Angeles Rams will be without left tackle Alaric Jackson for Week 6, as he was suspended for punching Buffalo Bills defender Bradley Chubb in the face. It will be veteran David Quessenberry taking over.
Despite the bad news, the Rams got some better news in terms of their depth. Rookie offensive lineman Keagen Trost will be returning soon, as his 21-day practice window has officially opened.
Head coach Sean McVay stated that Trost's clock would begin this week, and that has now been confirmed.
Trost was injured during preseason when he suffered a hamstring injury in the preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. The injury itself did not appear to be significant, but it led to the lineman being sidelined for the rest of preseason.
Trost was also added to the injured reserve to start the season and had to miss at least the first four games of the regular season. He has missed five thus far.
The practice window being opened also does not guarantee that Trost will be back for Week 6, but it means that he can return to practice and participate within 21 days and not be counted on the 53-man roster.
The Rams may need to make some roster moves to put Trost back on the 53-man roster once he fully returns. Again, he has 21 days to officially return.
Los Angeles may have looked to Trost to fill in at left tackle with the Jackson suspension, but that was not the case. Quessenberry will fill in.
Trost being out simply muted his chance to develop on the team's line, as he is figured to be a major piece for the offensive line moving forward.
Jackson being suspended might also be something to consider in the grand scheme of the Rams' plans. While he is a solid tackle, he has been in trouble three separate times since the 2024 season.
McVay might take umbrage at the veteran getting into trouble in the manner that he has, and could look to move on from Jackson. This is just speculation, as that may not be the case.
Either way, the Rams' line has many veterans, and Trost can be the player of the future. Similar to how Warren McClendon Jr. took over, Trost may be viewed as a lineman who can take over sooner rather than later.
For now, Trost will need to come back from his hamstring injury.
