The Los Angeles Rams have made it a point to strengthen their secondary, and bringing back Kam Curl has received a top grade.
The Los Angeles Rams had a tough time stopping opposing quarterbacks from being able to pass the ball, as the team posted a fourth-worst 276.0 passing yards per game average. To help that aspect of the defense, the team brought in Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, and re-signed Kam Curl.
While the news has been squarely on the former Kansas City Chiefs' cornerbacks joining the Rams, the re-signing of Curl received a top grade.
Curl was one of the young standouts on defense in 2025. After spending the 2024 season getting acclimated to the Los Angeles defense, he emerged as a strong safety in 2025.
Curl ended the 2025 season with a start in all 17 games and secured two interceptions, five passes defended, two sacks, and 122 total tackles. He also gave up one touchdown, a 73.4 completion percentage, and 89.5 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks.
Curl also brought in one interception in the playoffs, along with two passes defended and 27 total tackles.
Per PFF, Curl was ranked the 16th-best safety with an overall grade of 73.1. His 84.7 run defense grade was ranked sixth.
While Curl's coverage needs to take another step in 2025, his production more than made up for that fact. Interestingly, Curl's run defense grade is on par with that of McDuffie and Watson, both of whom came in to help the secondary and run stoppage,
Per The Athletic, the return of Curl also received an "A" grade.
"A steadily ascending player, Curl made a huge leap forward last season when he recorded a career-high 122 tackles and two interceptions in his second campaign with the Rams. He helps anchor a secondary that now features the newly-acquired All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie. Curl is extremely versatile and provides strong support against the run and is also viewed as a valuable leader for the defense," Mike Jones wrote.
Curl's ability to stop the run is one of the better aspects of his defensive playstyle. As stated above, the same can be said for McDuffie and Watson.
While the Rams may have wanted to also keep young upstart Cobie Durant (who joined the Dallas Cowboys), Curl was likely the priority due to his versatility.
Keeping the defense intact was a top priority for the team, but more so was strengthening the secondary. The Rams did that in a big way by adding two cornerbacks that are rated in the top 10, and by re-signing Curl.
