The Los Angeles Rams have received a new Myles Garrett injury update before facing the 49ers.

The Los Angeles Rams are set to kick off their 2026 NFL season on Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers. Ahead of that matchup, the status of superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett has been a small question mark for the team.

Garrett has been dealing with some swelling and soreness in his left knee. While that has brought some concern for Rams fans, a new update has been shared that will help dispel some of the worry.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the injury is not expected to limit Garrett at all in Week 1.

"Garrett … had a little bit of inflammation, I would say, in training camp," Rapoport reported.

"I don’t expect him to be limited at all. Really don’t believe that there’ll be an issue with him. There’s always going to be a little bit of maintenance, but he is a freakazoid athlete," Rapoport added

With the longtime superstar pass rusher expected to be just fine for the 49ers game, San Francisco and Brock Purdy will need to get creative. Staying away from Garrett is nearly impossible. That was made clear last season with the Cleveland Browns when Garrett broke the single-season sack record.

Los Angeles made another blockbuster addition to its defense ahead of Week 1 action. Aaron Donald opted to come out of retirement after weeks of rumors about his potential return. He has not been announced as playing this week, but it seems likely he will be on the field.

A pass-rushing duo of Garrett and Donald will be a nightmare week in and week out for opposing offensive lines. That may need to wait, as both have still not quite been given the green light to play.

That said, even if Garrett and/or Donald are not on the field, the Rams defense is packed with players like linebacker Byron Young and defensive linemen Braden Fiske, Poon Ford, and Kobie Turner, who can still make things tough for Purdy.

Heading into the 2026 season, the Rams are widely viewed as a top Super Bowl favorite. Even before Donald decided to return for retirement, the trade for Garrett made Los Angeles a much bigger Super Bowl threat.

Only time will tell what the new-look defense is capable of this season. Fans will get their first look at it on Thursday night. Having Garrett playing at 100 percent is the news the Rams were waiting for and have now received.

Make sure to tune in for the showdown between the two NFC West rivals on Thursday. The game is scheduled to kick off at 8:35 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on Netflix.
