Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is unsure of Myles Garrett's return timeline.

The Los Angeles Rams have been without defensive end Myles Garrett since he underwent knee surgery shortly after Week 1. The team placed him on IR (injured reserve), which knocked him out for Weeks 2 to 5.

With his IR stint being four games, the assumption would be that Garrett could potentially return to practice ahead of Week 6. However, Rams head coach Sean McVay is still unsure about the defender's return timeline.

Garrett was expected to be the major addition on defense that would turn the unit into something unstoppable, but that was not the case.

Los Angeles was dominated by the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, and Garrett was a non-factor in the game. It was later revealed that his nagging knee injury impacted his ability to be impactful.

Fellow defensive end Aaron Donald also returned to action in Week 2, but he has yet to be paired with Garrett. Donald missed Week 4 due to a back injury, but he is tracking to return in Week 5.

The NFL world is also awaiting to see both Garrett and Donald take the field at the same time, which may not come soon.

McVay was asked if he plans to open the practice window for Garrett when he is ready, but he emphatically said he is unsure.

"Im not sure," McVay said.

The Rams head coach also said that he promised an update on Garrett's recovery, but did not have full details.

"I really haven't even had a chance to, specifically, you know, I know that the rehab is progressing well. He's looked good in the meetings," McVay added.

Essentially, Garrett is progressing in his recovery from knee surgery, but the Rams' head coach did not offer much in terms of when the defensive end will be ready to return.

The Rams' defense has been a bit up-and-down through four games, but it was linebacker Byron Young who emerged in a significant way against the Philadelphia Eagles. He secured 2.5 sacks and was instrumental in the victory.

Once Donald and Garrett are fully healthy, they will take the field alongside Young to give this pass rush a big boost.

Los Angeles is also dealing with some injuries in the linebacker unit in general. Backup Grant Stuard is dealing with a hamstring injury and did not practice on Thursday, and Nate Landman also missed practice due to a shoulder issue.

McVay spoke about being out of rhythm due to play and injuries, and those affected players that have been out are key players.

The Rams are getting healthier, but it may take a few more weeks to get everyone back on the field together.
