The Los Angeles Rams are no strangers to bringing in former head coaches, and they are now set to host former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott.

The Los Angeles Rams are a team that most look to from an operational standpoint, and that was a major reason why former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury chose to join Sean McVay's ranks.

Kingsbury previously led the Washington Commanders offense and was considered to be a head coach candidate before joining the Rams, but the chance to see how McVay operates was a huge catalyst for him to land the assistant head coach position. Now, it appears former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott is following suit.

Per Adam Schefter, McDermott is visiting the Rams on Friday. The visit is to "see how teams like the Rams operate."

It makes sense why McDermott would want to see how McVay runs the organization from a coaching standpoint, and that could inform how the former Bills coach may use that knowledge for his next opportunity.

Since McVay took over the Rams in 2017, he has secured a 92-57 overall record (.617 win percentage). This includes seven playoff appearances and a Super Bowl win.

McVay has partnered with general manager Les Snead in a very significant way that has led to sustained success. Granted, there have been some down years, like in 2021 when the Rams went 5-12 after winning the Super Bowl, but that was an outlier in the grand scheme of things.

McVay has commanded respect for multiple seasons and could very well be the next coach to secure a long-standing place with an organization. He recently signed a multi-year extension back in Feb. 2026.

McDermott had his own success with the Bills, posting a 98-50 record in nine seasons. His unfortunate record through playoff appearances and not leading the team to a Super Bowl berth were the driving forces behind his being fired.

McDermott also figured to be a hot head coaching candidate in 2026, but he chose instead to take some time off. Now, he is visiting the Rams to seemingly do exactly what Kingsbury is also doing.

The Rams could very well make it all the way to the Super Bowl in 2026, and it is a testament to the leadership of McVay and the roster structure of Snead. Granted, things still have to go right for that to happen, but they are a good example to look towards.

If McDermott can take in some of that knowledge for his next foray into coaching, he could get over the hump of not making it to the big show.
