Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trent McDuffie shares his thoughts on Sean McVay and the team's culture following the first practice of training camp.

The Los Angeles Rams have reported for training camp, which gave head coach Sean McVay, the coaching staff, and the players an opportunity to see where the team stands.

Following the first practice, there was a media availability session that saw offensive coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase, defensive coordinator Chris Shula, special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone, and cornerback Trent McDuffie answer questions from the media about the first day of practice.

When McDuffie was at the podium, he made a very strong statement on how McVay is leading this team and setting the culture.

“Yeah, I mean Andy Reid, that's a Hall of Fame coach with a great culture over there, but we have just a good guy over here with Sean McVay, and just how he leads from the top, you know what I mean? I think everybody just follows his philosophy the way he does things, and I think he's does a good job at just letting players be themselves, you know, letting players go in and talk to him and hear us out and also just establishing this culture that you can be you, but you also just come in here to work, you know what I mean?

"And as long as you come here with the right attitude, with the right mindset, you can succeed. And he has a lot of coaches that are here that can get you to that next point. But at the end of the day, it's all about whoever 11's out there on the field and how much we want to be out there and play for each other. So, I'm excited to be a part of this culture cuz I mean, so far everything's been great," said McDuffie.

Coming from a player of McDuffie's caliber, this is quite the statement to make about McVay, especially after the success that McDuffie had with the Kansas City Chiefs and Andy Reid.

McDuffie was selected by the Chiefs in the 2022 NFL Draft and was a crucial part of a defense that helped Kansas City win back-to-back Super Bowls from 2022-2023 as well as get to a third in 2024.

Throughout McDuffie's time in the Chiefs' secondary, he continued to develop and showcased great production as he tallied 246 tackles, 5.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, three interceptions, and 34 pass breakups.

Overall, McDuffie has become a player who can contribute in nearly every aspect of the game, which is a major reason why the Rams acquired him this offseason. Following the trade, he signed a four-year $124 million contract, which made him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history, showing the type of player that Los Angeles believes him to be.

Since coming to the Rams, McDuffie appears to have done a great job getting acclimated to the system and the culture that McVay has implemented. The corner also talked about the fact that McVay has been able to build a staff that has solid coaches all around that puts players in great positions to succeed.

One of the biggest things that McDuffie stated about McVay is the communication between him and the players and the willingness to let the players be themselves as long as they do their job and put the work in.

For a team to be successful, there is no question that the communication between players and coaches is critical, and to no surprise, this is a big reason why McVay has flourished.

The last thing McDuffie talked about was the fact that it ultimately comes down to the players to make plays, which is why bringing him in, as well as players like star edge rusher Myles Garrett and former Chiefs teammate Jaylen Watson, is such a big deal.

Last season, the Rams had struggles at times in the secondary with covering the NFL's elite receivers, and because of that, general manager Les Snead brought in players like McDuffie and Watson to address that, in addition to Garrett to ramp up the pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

While training camp has just started, the culture that McVay has put in place appears to be very strong and has helped players like McDuffie, Watson, and Garrett to make smooth transitions, which could help the Rams play well into January.
