The initial injury report for the Los Angeles Rams points to a real concern in the linebacker room.
The Los Angeles Rams head into Week 2 with a chance to bounce back from a very tough loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1. Now, this team does have several injuries to manage.
According to Rams senior staff writer Stu Jackson, safety Kam Kurl (ankle) as well as linebackers Omar Speights (hip) and Nate Landman (shoulder) were limited in Thursday's practice, which does not bode well for the defense, but in particular the linebacker room.
Additionally, Jackson noted that safety Kam Kinchens (hamstring) did not practice, and wide receiver Davante Adams did not practice either, but he was simply taking a veteran rest day.
After coming back from Australia, it is pretty clear that the Rams do have some injuries to manage, so it will be worth watching how head coach Sean McVay moves forward with these injuries and if there are any roster moves made to adjust.
Going back to the linebacker room, the fact that Speights and Landman are both injured and limited in practice is not a great sign at all, as the depth at the position is very thin.
Behind Speight and Landman, the Rams have fellow linebackers Grant Stuard and Shaun Dolac, who are solid special teams contributors but have limited experience on defense.
The linebacker depth may require the Rams to make some roster moves, which could very well be elevating someone from the practice squad or signing an external free agent.
The front seven also took another hit earlier in the week as edge rusher Myles Garrett was officially placed on injured reserve, and as a result, he will be out at least the next four games. If Speights and Landman are also out on Monday against the New York Giants, that could be a huge problem for the Rams up front and at the second level.
In the secondary, with Kinchens out, the Rams did sign Tanner Ingle from the practice squad to replenish the safety depth in case Kinchens cannot play on Monday night.
Adams taking a veteran rest day is nothing to be concerned about; he simply needed a day off, and with him playing in his 14th NFL season, that is no surprise. As long as he performs well on Monday night and there are no concerns, the Rams should be in a good spot.
The Rams are set to face a tough task in facing the Giants, as the team looked good in their own Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Los Angeles will need to stop quarterback Jaxson Dart, running back Cam Skattebo, and much more, but they will do so with potentially dealing with some very big key injuries.
