Baltimore Ravens rookie wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane is reportedly to undergo surgery, and his recovery timeline has also been revealed.
The Baltimore Ravens got hit hard when rookie wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane was pulled from the game with a wrist injury, following fellow receiver Zay Flowers also being pulled due to a hamstring issue.
It was initially reported that Lane suffered a fractured wrist, but head coach Jesse Minter did not confirm that, instead stating that they would gather more information about next steps. Now, it is being reported that the rookie receiver will undergo surgery, and his return timeline has also been proposed.
Lane was one of the most talked-about prospects through OTAs and training camp, as the rookie continued to make highlight-reel plays against the Ravens' defense. He again showed his promise with a strong touchdown in the first preseason game.
Lane then caught a would-be first regular season touchdown against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, but it was called back due to a penalty on the Ravens' offense.
During the third quarter, Lane was pulled from the game with a wrist injury, but it wasn't known at the time how severe the injury was.
Minter and the coaching staff were likely waiting on a second opinion before announcing that the rookie receiver would need surgery. Now, it appears the case as CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reported, surgery would be coming soon.
Zenitz stated that a source revealed Lane would undergo surgery on the wrist, which could happen as early as Tuesday. Also, the reported recovery timeline would be about a month.
If this report is true, it means that Lane did not suffer a compound fracture, which is why his being ready after a month is the likely turnaround time. Had he suffered a worse break, he may have missed the majority of, or the rest of, the regular season.
This proposed timeline also lines up with what Minter had said about the injury. The Ravens' head coach told reporters that Lane did not notice at first that his wrist was injured, which is why it was hard to pin down when it actually happened.
There may have been some discomfort that became worse, leading to Lane needing to be pulled from the Colts game.
With the injuries to both Lane and Flowers, the Ravens have already made a move by bringing in wide receiver Gage Larvadian, and signing him to the practice squad. They released kicker Jake Moody as a result of the wide receiver's signing.
It is likely that Baltimore will also promote Chris Moore to the active roster, following his Week 1 performance. He secured a big 53-yard bomb from Lamar Jackson, and also had 121 return yards on four attempts.
