Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter offered some thoughts on the preseason opener and revealed an update on running back Rasheen Ali.
The first Baltimore Ravens preseason game is in the books, and head coach Jesse Minter reacted to the game following his chance to watch the tape.
Considering most of the starters for the Ravens were not playing, the backup defense did a solid job stopping the Philadelphia Eagles from establishing anything offensively through nearly all four quarters of action.
Additionally, third-string quarterback Joe Fagnano was able to move the chains in a significant way.
"Yeah, I thought honestly one of the things was just pre- snap operation," Minters said. "I thought was really well done on both sides of the ball. The ability we had some in-and-out plays, in-and-out of some run checks and things like that. Same thing on defense with some calls. So I thought that the guys did a really good job owning the operation. We were never really up against the play clock, which was awesome."
The Ravens looked to be in full control of the game, as they cruised to a 24-7 final score. Winning a preseason game does not mean much of anything, as it is more so a way to gauge the depth and health of a roster.
Some starters did take the field, including rookie guard Vega Ioane, who played in 15 snaps before being pulled from the game. In that small sample size, Ioane was seen leveraging his physicality in a major way, often seen finishing blocking assignments through to the whistle.
Ravens Injury News
Minter was also asked about where running back Rasheen Ali has been, and the Ravens head coach indicated that he is "working through some things."
"Yeah, he's just working through some stuff. Um, again, I don't think it'll be anything crazy, but he's working through some stuff and uh we'll kind of let that timeline shake out as it shakes out," Minter said.
With Ali being sidelined with an injury, Baltimore looked to rookie running back Adam Randall to lead the way during the preseason game.
Randall finished the day with 46 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries for a 3.8 yards per carry average.
Linebacker Jay Higgins IV also suffered a concussion in the preseason opener and was not seen during Monday's practice.
Minter did not offer any update on Higgins, but it is likely that he may miss this week due to needing to advance through the NFL's concussion protocols. Concussions can often linger for a few weeks, as players must pass certain benchmarks to be able to practice and play again.
Second-year linebacker Teddye Buchanan also returned to practice but was not seen doing team drills. He will also likely be brought along slowly to ensure that he does not suffer any setbacks following his ACL tear late in the 2025 season.
Cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins also returned to practice after missing most of last week due to different injuries.
