Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is reportedly dealing with a sprained ankle, and still has a chance to play on Sunday.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is reportedly dealing with a sprained ankle.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on the injury, stating that Jackson might also be able to play in Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons. It all depends on his recovery, as he might also have to miss a game or two to heal.
Jackson suffered the injury in the second-to-last play to close out the half on Sunday. The Ravens were well ahead of the Tennessee Titans, and the quarterback was attempting to evade traffic.
After being tackled from behind at the lower leg level, it did not initially appear that Jackson suffered any sort of significant injury. It was not until halftime that it was revealed that he had an ankle injury.
The Baltimore signal caller exited the tunnel without a helmet, and backup quarterback Tyler Huntley began to warm up. It was then revealed that Jackson was questionable to return with an ankle injury.
During media availability on Monday, Ravens head coach Jesse Minter stated that the injury would not be long-term. However, Minter did not offer much more information beyond that.
Now, it appears Jackson could be out for one to three games, depending all on how his ankle responds to treatment.
Huntley would be the presumed starter if Jackson cannot play against the Falcons. The issue is that once the backup took over against the Titans, the offense could not tack on any more points.
Baltimore led 24-7 at the half, and the Titans nearly came back in the fourth, as they scored 11 unanswered points.
Had the Titans caught up, it may have been Jackson stepping onto the field to lead the offense. Minter indicated as much on Monday, revealing there had been a conversation about the starter going back in.
It was a bit of foresight that Jackson did not go in now that he is dealing with a sprained ankle. Had he continued playing, he might have caused more damage to the ankle. That could have led to an even bigger layoff.
The Falcons are starting to heat up and looked good on Monday against the New Orleans Saints. The Ravens may want to see if Jackson can play with a cast or brace on, but they might also allow him to rest to ensure no further damage is done.
Either, the Baltimore passer avoided a serious injury that would have landed him on IR.
