The Baltimore Ravens have placed quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley on IR.
The Baltimore Ravens have officially placed quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley on IR (injured reserve), per the team's official site.
Jackson suffered a thumb injury in the opening play of Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills. The passer's hand collided with the helmet of a Bills defender, leading to Jackson being pulled from the game.
Shortly after, Huntley would join Jackson as being pulled due to a toe injury. It was later revealed that the backup quarterback suffered a turf toe injury that will knock him out for the remainder of the 2026 season.
Jackson may return, but he is officially set to miss Week 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers, Week 11 against the Carolina Panthers, and Week 12 against the Houston Texans.
The Ravens have a Week 13 bye, which could put Jackson in line to return to action in Week 14, when the team faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Dec. 13.
Head coach Jesse Minter has not confirmed whether the surgery and recovery will knock Jackson out for the rest of the 2026 season, but that could also be the case.
With Jackson out, the team will now have rookie Joe Fagnano starting on Thursday against the Jaguars. Despite a shaky start in Week 8, Fagnano has now had some time to prepare with the first team.
During preseason action, Fagnano looked poised and played like a veteran. This led the Ravens to not only add him to the active roster, but also take in a third quarterback for the first time in years.
Backing up Fagnano will be Austin Reed. Reed initially joined the NFL in 2024 as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears.
Reed would eventually join the UFL, where he played for the Dallas Renegades. He has no starts in the NFL.
The third emergency quarterback is Kedon Slovis. Slovis also joined the league in 2024, but moved between multiple teams' practice squads. He also has no starts and has only attempted two passes in his professional career.
Baltimore also traded for veteran passer Jacoby Brissett, but he will not be ready to take the helm until Week 10.
What will be interesting is if Fagnano shows that he has command of the Ravens offense, and if that gives Minter something to think about in terms of putting the rookie as QB2 ahead of Week 10.
