Baltimore Ravens rookie receiver Ja'Kobi Lane gave some insight into his versatility and how he will operate in the new offense from Declan Doyle.

There is a big expectation that the Baltimore Ravens offense is set to elevate in 2026, and a big component of that is the belief that new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle is building something special.

Players and coaches have priased Doyle's vision, including rookie Ja'Kobi Lane. Lane sat down on "The Lounge" to delve a bit deeper into the offensive plan and how he will be utilized using his versatility as a receiver.

"Whatever the team needs me to do, I'm going to fulfill it," Lane said. "I don't really care whether that's special teams, playing receiver, um being a package guy, I think being able to uh be around Coach Doyle, his idea for the offense is next level. And I think I'm going to fit in wherever I'm put in and I'm going to fulfill my role to the best of my ability."

Initially, Lane spoke about capitalizing on his opportunity on the Ravens offense, whether that is to be a package receiver, operating on special teams, or otherwise.

A surprising aspect of Lane's game has been in blocking, which was brought up by hosts Ryan Mink and Garrett Downing.

"Yeah, I think being able to, you know, like I said, be put in positions on this offense to be put in positions to make plays. And I think um rather than just catching the ball, it's being put in positions to set the edge for Derrick Hamry so he can break a 70-yard run. So I think being able to realize it's not just about what I can do down the field, but what I can do in the box and for the offense all around it," Lane said.

On top of being ready to play wherever, as a receiver and as a blocker, Lane spoke about how Doyle has been placing him in different routes, other than being a "go route" receiver.

"Yeah, like I said, Coach Doyle is a mastermind when it comes to offense. And I think me being able to be not only a bigger receiver, like you said, but be able to have some wiggle to me and be able to move on these shallow crosses. It just gives me more um opportunities to open stuff up for guys like Zay, guys like LaJohntay, Bate, and so on and so forth. So, I think being able to be somebody that can uh take eyes and and be able to to pull eyes to a certain area to maybe pop something off or maybe sucker them off and and make them think we're going deep and then we hit a double pass or something," Lane said.

Interestingly, Ravens head coach Jesse Minter indicated that Lane or fellow rookie receiver Elijah Sarratt would be getting a major opportunity in 2026. Considering how Lane is describing his versatility, there could be a case for both of them to take the field in a significant way.

Baltimore has needed pass catching help for multiple seasons, and Zay Flowers has been the lone go-to guy for Lamar Jackson. Rashod Bateman has not yet emerged as a true playmaker, but he could flourish in this new Doyle system.

If that is not the case, Lane and Sarratt could be gunning for those WR2 and WR3 positions.

Jackson has also had some choice words for the rookies, praising both during a minicamp media session. The chemistry is also already there, as both Lane and Sarratt got into the mix with some great catches with Flowers and Bateman not on the practice field.

A lot can happen between now and the start of the regular season, but the Ravens may have hit big on two receivers that can help transform the offense in 2026.
