The Baltimore Ravens have already lost a key player, as cornerback T.J. Tampa is out with a knee injury.
The Baltimore Ravens are kicking off their Week 1 showdown with the Indianapolis Colts, and after a slow start, the Ravens have been striking fast.
Unfortunately, the team has already suffered a key injury. Cornerback T.J. Tampa suffered a knee injury and has already been ruled out.
Well into the first quarter, Tampa appeared to have suffered an injury. He walked to the locker room, and the team announced that he was out moments later.
This is a big hit to the Ravens' defense, as the team had already made rookie cornerback Chandler Rivers inactive before the game started. This could severely impact the team's secondary if anyone else happens to get hurt.
There have been a lot of questions regarding how this new defense under head coach Jesse Minter and defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver would operate. To start the game, the Colts were able to easily march down the field, and some over-the-middle throws to Josh Downs led to a quick touchdown.
Baltimore answered back in a big way, as it took Lamar Jackson and the offense no time at all to get a touchdown of their own, as the Ravens quarterback kept it and rushed in.
When the Colts took the field again, the Ravens' defense appeared to find its footing, as linebacker Roquan Smith was able to intercept the ball after reading quarterback Daniel Jones easily.
Since the initial drive, the Baltimore defense has been all over the Colts and has had way more success.
Losing Tampa will definitely impact the secondary, but the starters are still on the field. There is far more game to play, but the Ravens have taken full control.
There are no further details regarding how significant the injury is to Tampa, but Minter is sure to speak on his status at the end of the game or soon thereafter. The hope for the Ravens would be that his exit was precautionary, as opposed to being due to an injury that will keep the corner out for a longer period of time.
At the time of this writing, the Ravens are up 14-6.
