The Baltimore Ravens are set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in their first preseason game on Saturday.
The Ravens will host the Eagles, and while they won’t be playing their starters, there is much to look forward to.
The preseason provides third-stringers, fourth-stringers, and undrafted players with a valuable opportunity to stand out and make their case for a spot on the 53-man roster. It’s an exciting time to see who shows up and shows out.
While there is much to look forward to, here are the three Ravens to watch in the team’s preseason opener.
3. Danny Pinter
With established starters set to sit out, Pinter is expected to see action in the preseason opener despite being listed with the first team on the Ravens' unofficial depth chart.
But with the Ravens' starting center job still unresolved, the coaching staff would love to see how Pinter performs in live action. Pinter is up for the starting job alongside Ethan Pocic and Jovaughn Gwyn.
Pinter is slated to take significant snaps on Saturday, as well as Gwyn. The Ravens' center competition appears to be wide open, and whoever shines in preseason could be a lock for the starting spot.
Coaches plan to heavily rotate the center position during the game to evaluate the best they can.
2. Jay Higgins IV
Higgins is in the middle of a camp battle. He’s currently competing for a reserve inside linebacker spot and a special-teams role on the Ravens.
Higgins is matching up against players like Trent Simpson and other returning players. He is a strong candidate to make the 53-man roster due to his versatility both on defense and special teams.
The former undrafted rookie has shown flashes of brilliance in coverage early on in training camp. If Higgins can continue to build on the significant snaps that he received in his rookie season, he’ll be likely to secure a spot right behind Roquan Smith, who he is currently behind in the Ravens' first unofficial depth chart of 2026.
1. T.J. Tampa
Tampa is having a strong training camp, and it’ll be exciting to see if that translates to live-action football against another team. We’ll get a good look at it on Saturday.
Tampa has turned heads thus far, stacking productive practices, positioning himself for a larger role if he can continue his stellar play.
He’s displayed great coverage in 1-on-1 and 11-on-11 drills, frequently breaking up passes, earning high praise from coaches.
Nate Wiggins and Marlon Humphrey are currently experiencing minor injuries. Even if they were healthy, they likely wouldn't play in the preseason. Nonetheless, Tampa has a chance to shine and carve out a role for himself in Jesse Minter’s defense when all is said and done.
