Fowler links up with former Cowboys teammate DeMarcus Lawrence in Seattle and he revealed why he chose the NFC West as his next destination.
The offseason for the Seattle Seahawks hasn't been one that has seen a lot of new players come rolling through the doors, but one was edge Dante Fowler Jr.
Coming from the Dallas Cowboys and that awful defense under Matt Eberflus, Fowler now links up with former teammate DeMarcus Lawrence in the NFC West.
Set to be part of the rotation under Mike Macdonald, Fowler isn't too far removed from one of the best seasons of his career.
Fowler posted 10.5 sacks with Dan Quinn and the Washington Commanders in 2024, but last season, along with nearly every other Cowboys player, he struggled, managing just three sacks.
Now he finds his way to the defending Super Bowl champions, and Fowler is eager to find his place among Macdonald's defense.
And in speaking on Seattle Sports with Brock and Salk, Fowler likes what he sees early days in training camp.
“I like what the standard is,” Fowler said. “The standard’s the standard. You see why they won a Super Bowl. I’m a football guy, always been playing football from a very young age. My dad’s a football coach, and my dad would love that I’m on this type of team.”
Exactly where Fowler will find himself on the depth chart is something that will be a fascinating watch over the coming weeks.
Lawrence, Leonard Williams, Mike Morris, Jared Ivey, and others are ahead of Fowler at this point in time, but the veteran likely knew he would be low on the depth chart to begin with.
Training camp is where Fowler can showcase his skills; after all, Seattle got him for a reason.
Likely seen as a top-of-the-rotation player, Fowler has played over 32 percent of the defensive snaps in a season just once since 2022.
Last season, he started 11 games in Dallas, the most since 2020, but only played 32 percent of the snaps for Eberflus' unit, so you could say the veteran is a little refreshed physically as he enters camp.
It isn't known how much game time Fowler will be getting, and right now, it is all about learning Macdonald's scheme and fitting in with his new teammates; the rest will take care of itself.
But one thing Fowler does know? The standard is the standard.
