All of the offseason hype has been on one rookie for Brian Fleury's offense, but one veteran is reportedly outshining him.
The Seattle Seahawks' running back room has been the main focus for most fans this offseason.
With no Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet dealing with an ACL injury and expected to miss a fair chunk of the season, who new coordinator Brian Fleury has as his No. 1 option is an interesting storyline.
Jadarian Price, Seattle's first-round pick, is the one who many thought would simply slot straight into the starting role, and when Charbonnet returns to full health, the pair would be a nice tandem behind San Darnold.
But with OTAs and minicamp now done and dusted, the roster is on a break before training camp and the "real football" can begin.
However, once we get there, it might not be Price who is the lead guy.
Yeah, you read that right.
It could be a third-year back who has yet to really prove himself -- George Holani.
ESPN's Brady Henderson has named George as a surprise from the offseason's work to date.
"In the absence of a true surprise standout, we'll go with Holani, a 2024 undrafted free agent who is squarely in Seattle's backfield plans for 2026," Henderson wrote. "In the six full-squad practices that were open to reporters, it was Holani -- not first-round pick Jadarian Price or free agent pickup Emanuel Wilson -- who tended to get the first crack with the No. 1 offense.
"Holani is looking to build off his strong finish to 2025, when he performed well as a fill-in for Zach Charbonnet."
Holani, in his two seasons with the Seahawks, has been nothing more than a bit-part player, rushing for just 83 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.
Seen more as a special teamer last season under Klint Kubiak, as Holani managed 133 snaps on special teams, compared to just 36 on offense, it appears that Fleury sees value in at least seeing what he has in Holani as a starter.
Now, just because George took a lot of snaps with the first team doesn't necessarily mean he's slated to take the job. It could be a simple rotation so that Fleury can see exactly what each of his running backs can do with the starters.
On the other hand, it could hint that maybe Holani, right now, is the clubhouse leader to be the starter when the season begins.
