The NFL offseason is a long one, and the Seattle Seahawks have gotten off to an OK start as defending champions.
Their roster was always going to get raided, with several free agents now with other teams, but the plan has been clear from John Schneider.
They've managed to keep a handful of players, relying on the depth of the roster to even out the losses of Coby Bryant, Riq Woolen, Boye Mafe, and Kenneth Walker.
Just one player in, Emanuel Wilson, and those four players out, still leave the Seahawks in a good position.
We know that player acquisition isn't limited to a couple of weeks, so Seattle can still be in the mix right up until the draft.
But as things stand, are the Seahawks still one of the best teams in football?
For NFL.com's Eric Edholm, in his free agency power rankings piece, Mike Macdonald's team comfortably sits at No. 1.
“Watching Kenneth Walker III, Boye Mafe and Coby Bryant leave had to sting, but as far as defending champs go, the Seahawks remain in very respectable shape,” Edholm wrote. “Seahawks brought in some cheaper free agents to patch positional holes, and the draft can help buttress spots, as well.
"Seattle has just four picks in the 2026 draft, but only one of those is outside the top 100. GM John Schneider has worked draft magic in the past -- turning four picks into 11 via trades back in 2019 -- so it's impossible to know what the 'Hawks end up with. But for now, I have no reason to demote the champs in their effort to repeat.”
We know how well-rounded Seattle's roster was last season, and it is clear the franchise has faith that the depth on both sides of the ball can help alleviate the losses in free agency.
The draft will be an interesting watch. Will Seattle look to make a couple of moves to acquire more picks? With only four, that is on the table.
But the nucleus of the team that won the Super Bowl is mostly intact. Walker is the only one who played a huge role who isn't on the team anymore.
So, through the early part of free agency, you can say that the Seahawks appear to have weathered the early storm.
Now they must consolidate either through shrewd free-agent signings or by hitting on their draft picks.
But as far as the power rankings go, Seattle is No. 1 until someone knocks them off.
