The Seahawks might seem weaker after free agency, but the franchise still boasts two of the NFL's best position groups.
The Seattle Seahawks have had an interesting free agency period after winning the Super Bowl.
The franchise saw several key free agents leave, but also re-signed some key players, too.
But there haven't been too many key incomings, with Rodney Thomas II, Emanuel Wilson, Noah Igbinoghene, D'Anthony Bell, Josh Jones, and Cody White the outside free agents signed.
So you could make the case that the Seahawks, at least on paper, are weaker than they were last season.
But we've mentioned a lot that the Seahawks, under Mike Macdonald, have one of the most well-rounded rosters in football. They are good everywhere.
And as it turns out, they are still elite in a couple of areas.
Sports Illustrated's Gilberto Manzano and Matt Verderame listed the best teams at every position after free agency, and Seattle pops up...twice.
Firstly, they boast the best cornerback group
"Devon Witherspoon can shut down receivers from any position on the field and will likely see a market-setting contract extension later this offseason for his dominant 2025 season," Manzano wrote.
"The Seahawks also had no issues with letting Riq Woolen sign with Philadelphia in free agency because of the emergence of Josh Jobe, who re-signed on a three-year, $24 million contract."
That's a given, considering how elite the secondary was last season in Seattle.
But you could argue that isn't their most dynamic and scary part of their team.
The Seahawks, according to Manzano, also boast the NFL's best special teams unit.
"Special teams stepped up throughout the season and had clutch moments from reliable kicker Jason Myers, who had a record five field goals in the Super Bowl, and dangerous returner Rashid Shaheed, who had the momentum-changing 58-yard punt return touchdown against the Rams that essentially locked up home-field advantage for the team," Manzano wrote.
So, for all the changes that the Seahawks have gone through roster-wise, they still boast two of the NFL's best units under Macdonald.
And we haven't even spoken about Sam Darnold or Jaxon Smith-Njigba yet, either.
It does feel like the Seahawks have come back to the chasing pack a little, but they still remain a potent roster as they look to defend their Super Bowl title.
