Price was used sparingly against New England, so is he set to have an increased workload against Arizona?
Seattle Seahawks running back Jadarian Price had himself a good NFL debut in the win over the New England Patriots.
But he wasn't exactly the bell cow many expected.
Price totaled only 10 carries for the game, but he did clock up 52 yards on the ground, so when he did get his number called, he was productive.
Other back George Holani got eight carries as new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury worked both backs into the game.
Given that Price is a first-round pick, many would have expected him to get the majority of the carries against the Patriots, but it didn't pan out that way.
And as Fleury explains, that was part of the plan.
"We were very deliberate about the reps that he was going to get and how he was going to be used," Fleury said. "He didn't play in the preseason. It was the very first NFL game, huge stage, and we just wanted to be cautious in terms of his workload.
"He obviously earned more reps moving forward and we'll continue to bring him along and develop him the right way."
So, going by Fleury's words, we should see an increased workload from Price in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals, right?
Given what Price showed, the Seahawks' ground game was very productive, as he averaged 5.2 yards per run, compared to Holani's 3.6.
But if you thought that the physical hand brake was going to be released on Price, you'd be wrong, as when Fleury was asked if Price is still in a ramp-up period, he detailed exactly why that is the case.
"For sure, it's not because of anything physical, it's just being a rookie," Fleury added.
With Drew Lock at quarterback, the Seahawks are going to do their best to make sure he won't be doing the heavy lifting against Arizona, and that means getting Price and the run game rolling.
Holani is still going to see his share of carries, but Price should be the main runner; just don't expect 20+ carries from the Notre Dame star.
Price was a bright spot in the Week 1 win, and he has earned the right for more carries in Fleury's offense. Let's see what he does with them.
