With no Darnold due to injury, it will be Drew Lock who gets the start, but Fleury isn't expecting too much change from the offense.
Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Fleury didn't have the smoothest debut in Week 1 as his starting quarterback went down with an injury just five plays in.
With Sam Darnold now out for at least this week against the Arizona Cardinals, Drew Lock will get a rare start after he managed to bus drive the Seahawks to a win against the New England Patriots.
Naturally, it did take Lock a couple of quarters to adjust to the game speed and everything else that comes with being forced into the game, and in the fourth quarter, he helped the offense put up 10 points to ensure a 13-10 win.
But now that he has a full week of preparation ahead of the Cardinals clash, the expectation is that Drew will hold up his end of the deal and let the Seahawks do what they do best: play defense.
For Fleury, he doesn't envision any changes to the offense despite Lock taking over from Darnold.
“I’m not expecting it to be that different,” Fleury said via ESPN's Brady Henderson. “We had a lot of chance to work together throughout training camp, I called more plays for him than I have for Sam at this point in terms of live game reps.
“I’m expecting no drop-off in production whatsoever.”
So that is a big thing for Fleury to think, that the offense under Lock will still be able to produce at a high level against a Cardinals team that showed the Los Angeles Chargers a clean set of heels.
Of course, Fleury has confidence in Lock due to the time spent together in preseason calling plays and then against the Patriots.
But we did see the offense stutter and splutter a little against New England before finding its groove late, so the hope is that with a full week of preparation, the offense will hit the ground running against Arizona.
Lock spoke about his schedule, which he's leaning on as he prepares for his first start in a couple of years, so from the outside, Seattle seems as prepared as it'll ever be with a quarterback change.
Fleury has confidence. Time will tell if that confidence is misplaced.
